This isn't quite as cut and dried as all the Maddenites would like to make it. First, let's establish some facts. Seattle had 1 time out left. It was 2nd down.

Had Belichick called time out (as some would suggest he should have) Seattle could have run each of the following 3 downs.

Since he did not call time out, it created a situation where Seattle could run at most 2 of its 3 remaining downs.

Once the Patriots did not call timeout, it forced Seattle into one of the following situations:

2nd down run, timeout, 3rd down run, WHOOPS TIME IS OUT

2nd down run, timeout, 3rd down pass, 4th down run or pass

2nd down pass, 3rd down run or pass, 4th down run or pass

Passing on 2nd down kept the most options open on 3rd and 4th down. It was probably the right call.

So let's recap.

By not calling a time out, Belichick accomplished two things 1) he created a situation where passing was the high percentage call for the Seahawks on 2nd down and 2) he did not give the Wilson a chance to collect himself. The play call and its execution would be made under extreme stress. Passing was the right call for the Seahawks. One can argue whether they should have called different route combinations. Clearly Wilson should not have thrown that particular pass. But in selecting not to call a time out and by choosing to pass, both Belichick and Carroll were probably making the decisions that put them in the best position to win.

Hootie wakes up speaking both Mandarin and Cantonese tomorrow.

You run the ball there. Period.

Marshawn Lynch, or Ricardo Lockette?

I only watched a few Seahawk games this season but I recall Lynch sucking at short yardage to go runs. Most of his damage was when it was 4 or more yards to go.

Even if that's the case, you at least try once. And if nothing else, you put the QB under center, you put "beast" behind him, and you go play-action.

And he'd have more than just one try too. With the timeouts they had what transpired was very, very, poor coaching given what he had on the field in front of him.

In one of the craziest, and closest games you’ll ever witness, Super Bowl XLIX on NBC that saw the New England Patriots win 28-24 over the Seattle Seahawks is the highest-rated Super Bowl of all-time, based on the overnight numbers from Nielsen.

The game pulled a 49.7/72, up 4 percent from 47.6/70 between the Seahawks and Patriots, and up 3 percent from the prior record of 48.1/71 for the Ravens vs. the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII played in February of 2013.

According to NBC Sports, Super Bowl XLIX overnight topped the 50 rating mark in each half hour from 8pm ET forward and peaked at a staggering 52.9/73 from 10-10:15 p.m. ET when the game held in the balance.
