Which three players in the NFL would you build a franchise around?

You can pick any three players currently in the NFL. Salary Cap space not being an issue, who would you choose?

I'd be in win now mode, and I'd go with Aaron Rodgers, Julio Jones, and Von Miller.

There was a time when having a dominant running game was highly beneficial to the health of your QB; it helped take some of the pressure off of him in a time when defenses could literally beat the shit out of your teams QB.
Offensive lines and running backs were expected to be as tough as their defensive counterparts, if not tougher.
The rule changes and the ascendancy of the spread in college, which has trickled upward in to the NFL, has made the pro game offense rather bland and one-dimensional in this era, IMO.

Depends on how you are using them.

All I know is, if I were one of the top backs in the league and the coach came to me and said, "okay, we're gonna' run you out of the shotgun and use screens to establish the ground game", I'd tell that coach to take his "team-friendly, restructured"-contract, and shove it up his ass.

Put him on ignore, but don't tell him about it. Then get DaFace to update TimBone on the new ignore list numbers.

That vote didn't matter, it was already decided. Hell, the "new mods" got the green light and were in the mod forum by the time that was posted, evident by the substance of several posts on the subject. Hell, the poll itself basically said "make sure we got it right." To add to it, the 120 votes that were cast at the time of the crowning ceremony are hardly representative of the user base here. So, we can all either accept the lot or get bent over. It was and remains out of our hands. No use bitching about it at this juncture. I don't have a problem with it. Austin is really the one that should have the say in who his moderators are anyhow. One can only hope the new selections don't repeat history here, despite the new rules only opening the door further for that to happen. So far, they all seem genuine in their intent and purpose, and that is what you should hope remains a constant.

How do the new rules open the door further for history to repeat itself?

What we had going on with consistently AWOL mods except for Bwana and Bob "Safe space" Dole was a bad situation. We corrected it. That's not really history repeating itself.

If you're talking about bringing back previously banned members, who cares? If they misbehave again, they'll get banned again. I don't think keeping the old mods or bringing in the new ones or a DIFFERENT crop of new mods is going to change that.

How in the world did this thread get so derailed?

Oh yeah....I called jjchieffan a true fan, and he said I was a douchebag and unfit to be a moderator.

Damn it, jjchieffan, this is all your fault. If you weren't such a true fan homer, this thread would still be on topic. I hope you're proud of yourself.

The guys I'd probably pick are listed. It would probably Rodgers, Miller, Houston. Maybe Donald, Maybe Tyron Smith.

A couple guys I might throw out that at lest deserve some consideration

Earl Thomas - Seahawks D hasn't missed a beat, no matter who they rolled out there. Until Thomas went down. Then everything went to ****. Maybe it's too small a sample size, but looking at what happened to the Seachickens, this might be the guy that is the key to that defense.

Cam Newton - Yeah, he's kind of a headcase, but what evidence is there that Ron Rivera is anything other than a trainwreck as a head coach? With what that guy can bring to the table, it may be a guy to take a shot on.

I'm not all up on the Dak bandwagon. Take away the best line since Larry Johnson raped fools, and he looks a lot different. In the Giants games, they got some pressure on him and he looked bad. Meanwhile, Romo would have just slung it in the general direction of where Dez might be sometime. And it probably would have worked.

I'm also not all aboard the Mariota Train. I don't think he's bad or anything, but he hasn't shown me enough to oogle over him. Plus that running game was NASTY. We all know what running games do to make QBs look better than they are. And if you are going to roll with Mariota, what has he done that Rapist Winston hasn't?

You might also look at a Hudson type guy at Center. Gotta be able to call the coverage, and the quickest way to an INT or dead QB is pressure up the middle.

You don't build around wide receivers ... unless you are Matt Millen.

If you start from scratch, you start with a QB ... find an elite one of those, you're gold.

And then you try and accumulate as many pass rushers as humanly possible while trying to get lucky and snag a few good OL ...

Everything else? It's just so scheme dependent. Look at the Pats. You think Edelman, Hogan and Amendola are great on other squads? Nah. The Pats outscheme everyone and 2nd place isn't even in the same universe.
Son of a bitch. I agree with Hootie. I double checked the math, and by god, I agree with Hootie.

Its about the end goal.... Championships or appeasing the fanbase....

JC isnt a piece to a championship run.... But if you want to make the fanbase happy and get the BBQ rolling... Then keep him signed to keep "hope to make noise in the playoffs" alive...
