Charles could have an mvp type year if the line is as good as hoped.

I know I'm dipping my toe into it here, but what if this line gives Alex another 1.5 seconds of pocket time as well? This offense could have the potential to be scary good all the way around if this line can perform like it looks like they can...

What if Hill and Conley give us one or two more explosive playmakers?

I also think our 3 TE sets are going to be very good with Harris and O'Shaugnessy

Reid has to be licking his chops with all the things he can do formation wise.

Works for me. Fish will never live up to the #1 pick, but he's been a solid contributor the last couple years and showed flashes of being a top-tier LT last year.

Best thing that ever happened and I hate to say this was when Charles went out of the line up. I think Andy would have still tried all season to force a square peg into a round hole with Charles getting the ball on almost all the plays. His play calling was horrible prior. Hopefully Andy keeps that playbook open with just a sprinkling of Charles rather than the whole salt shaker.

This was a smart move. A bit of a gamble to be sure, but isn't every new contract handed out a bit of a gamble?
I'm just always surprised by who they take to the brink and who they re-sign early. They let Houston play out his deal which ended up costing them a ton of money, they let Berry play out his, and now he's going to command the largest contract in football for a safety, but they re-sign Fisher, who is, at best, a second tier LT, to a top shelf salary.

Oh, man. I'd jizz.

We've seen JC perform masterfully behind poor OLs for damn near a decade now. Even after this latest injury I have no doubt he can get skinny and still do well. The most important factor would be giving Alex more time in the pocket.

But Reid...

I read about that recently. Going completely off memory here so someone feel free to check me, but I want to say we ran the ball on 43% of plays last season which was good for like 9th in the league or something.

We run the ball more than it seems.

You're the most overrated poster on this board.

How do you know they "took them to the brink"? Do you know how contract talks were going with those guys behind the scenes?

Because they waited until Justin Houston was an impending FA to sign him. The closer the player is to walking, the more leverage they have and the more they can command.

but they didn't 'let' Houston.

They approached him a year early and tried to get him to sign a deal on par with players that were similar to what he'd shown so far; around $13 million/season IIRC. He refused to sign there and in fact said he wanted Watt money before his 22 sack season. They couldn't justify giving him that at that point (and frankly, Watt money was what he got anyway).

Berry had !@#$ing cancer, give me a break.

It's like saying they let Hudson walk - no they didn't, they were aggressively trying to get him to sign and thought they had him at $6 million/season about halfway through the year. He balked at the last minute and insisted on FA.

It takes two to make a deal happen. The Chiefs appear to be approaching all their guys before FA hits, giving them what they believe to be a 'fair' offer and if the other guy is on board, they make it happen. It happened with Bailey. It happened Kelce and now Fisher as well.

The Chiefs are unilateral actors here and the number of times they've gotten deals done at simply fair figures tells me that when they don't, it's not because the Chiefs aren't looking to get something done but rather that the player is not really all that interested in signing away his FA status.

For Fisher: positional value, ascending player and known commodity.

Houston: coming off a season performance he will never replicate. Positional value, elite overall defender salary.

Berry: little positional value, may have already peaked, does salary merit long term retention given he wants to be highest paid safety?

This is the difference between being a GM and a fan IMO.

I think Hudson is a good center but he's not worth the money he got on the open market. Shit, none of the Oline guys we have seen walk were worth the contracts they signed. I think we would have extended Berry sooner, and thus never been in this position, had it not been for the cancer. And while I love me some Eric Berry, lets not forget that this team played good defense without him.
