Panthers rescind franchise tag on Norman, now UFA

The Carolina Panthers announced the stunning news Wednesday that the team has rescinded the franchise tag for cornerback Josh Norman, making him an unrestricted free agent.

"After a number of conversations with Josh's agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "We have decided to rescind the Franchise Tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well."

They reportedly decided they would rather just cut him loose than deal with a possible hold out distraction.

Personally, I think they're smart as hell with this. He's going to come back. I'll be surprised if a team throws enough $$$ at him to make him jump before realizing he's meant to stay in Carolina where he can thrive for a little less cash.

I think it's one of 4 things.

1 He is being a big enough jackass about everything and running his mouth. Unlikely since they aren't together much

2 League is going to hit him with a suspension for some games. We'd have heard about it by now

3. He's injured and won't be himself or will miss games.

4. Hold out.
