Eagles trade with Browns for #2 pick

For the second time in less than a week, an NFL team has made a bold move to potentially draft a franchise quarterback.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft in a trade with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, the Eagles announced. Philadelphia will receive a 2017 fourth-round pick along with the No. 2 pick in exchange for five picks, including this year's and next year's first rounders.

The deal puts Philadelphia in a prime position to select one of the two quarterbacks that every NFL Media draft analyst has projected as the first players set to be taken off the draft board in Chicago on April 28. Cal's Jared Goff and North Dakota State's Carson Wentz are expected to be the first two selections of the draft.

For the Eagles, the move to No. 2 gives executive vice president Howie Roseman and new coach Doug Pederson a promising opportunity to mold the direction of the franchise for years to come. Last year's offseason acquisition of Sam Bradford -- a former No. 1 overall pick -- did little to bolster the Eagles' offense in 2015. Until Tuesday, the Eagles were poised go with Bradford and former Kansas City Chiefs backup Chase Daniel as their quarterbacks for 2016.

The Eagles-Browns trade comes six days after the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Tennessee Titans to secure the draft's No. 1 overall pick.

Around The NFL will have more on the trade soon.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft in a trade with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, the Eagles announced. Philadelphia will receive a 2017 fourth-round pick along with the No. 2 pick in exchange for five picks. The five picks Philly gave up are the No. 8, No. 77 (third round) and No. 100 (fourth round) selections in this year's draft, along with next year's first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2018.

The Eagles OLine got their asses kick time and time again on goal line situations.

I should know. I had McCoy and Murray in fantasy. They got stuffed because the Oline got dominated.

Rowe was a rookie last year at CB and played damn well. Would I take him over Peters? No. Would I take him to play for KC? Damn straight.

Do I think the Eagles have a better roster than KC? No. What I do know is that that Eagles team is going to get after the QB with new DC Jim Schwartz and they are going to run the same offense we do with some very solid pieces to do so with. I think the Eagles win that division this year.
Okay so they have a top tier offensive line. We can establish that.

But you are propping up what ifs like Nelson Algohor and Eric Rowe like they are already established now. I don't have a crystal ball to look into the future and know if those guys are going to pan out or not, so I can't give the Eagles credit for them today like you can. It's a difference of opinion I guess.

I like judging a roster's talent on the guys who have established themselves. I just don't really see any premier talent on that team. Most good teams have a Fletcher Cox in the middle. Most good teams have a premier pass rusher (Eagles don't even have that). Most good teams have at least ONE good established corner. I'm not really sure where any of that stuff is in Philly.

I'm just saying a lot has to pan out of the Eagles roster to "not suck" Ryan Matthews has to stay healthy, rookie RB has to establish himself, a WR or two has to step up, Ertz needs to score more than 2 touchdowns, ANY CB has to prove they can cover someone, a pass rusher needs to play up to their contract and get more than 6-7 sacks in a season.

If all that happens then yea I'll agree a lot of their questions marks will have panned out and I'll say their current roster doesn't suck. But until then I'm not giving credit to a roster with a couple of good guys in their prime and the rest needing development.

Cowherd loves Chip Kelly, and thinks that the Philly roster is good.

What is their problem then? Bad luck?

I guess he did say their OLine has some issues, though.

I think Chip Kelly's scheme covered a roster deficiency he created. He is a good coach but horrible at keeping/picking players.

The AFC South was the worst division in 2015, followed closely by the NFC South.

Dallas was awful without Romo which is why the Eagles jumped the Cowboys to get a QB.

When you look at the compensation, did the Eagles really give up a first, second, and third, to only move up six spots? Sure a couple of those picks are next year, but... sheesh.

The Browns have had 24 starting QBs since 1999. Many of them high draft picks. They suck at drafting QBs. They are much better off getting extra draft picks and building the rest of the team, then worrying about a QB.

This is a really good deal for Cleveland.

You can't even look at what you just typed and think for a minute?
You just believe that a team gets 24 QBs that a majority of the rest of the league deemed professional and serviceable..but somehow, just because they go to that team, they end up sucking?
It's a copycat league and everyone knows what everyone else knows but yeah sure, your onlyva b seer is they suck at picking QBs?
And you try and call me dumb?
It's the only American pro football league where you are supposed to get the best of the best. So/but somehow, some ****ing way, you believe it's natural for the Browns to always get the worst of the best.
You'll believe anything then.
