Life Is Marijuana a gateway for harder drugs? - Page 11

With the legalization of two states, the trend is going to sweep the nation in next 20 years. Being a father, I like to teach my children about certain paths in life to take or not to take. Personally, I don't touch Marijuana and I don't want my kids to touch that at all. But kids just like to listen to their peers.

How does the board view about this?

I think a lot of it has to do with your personality, and the people you hang out with. Do you have an addictive personality? Then chances are you'll get into whatever you can get! I have an addictive personality, I started smoking weed at about 14, because I have an addictive personality, and the crowd I hung with were druggies, it led me to using other drugs. I've learned to keep it in check most of the time. But I still do and likely always will smoke weed. I don't drink a lot (although I tend to go big when I do) and it's how I unwind.

For most states you have to purchase it illegally from someone who likely also deals in other illegal drugs so yeah it's a gateway drug. You also probably aren't smoking alone so you're probably in a social group that is willing to do illegal things on varying levels for each person. How far will you be willing to go?

Weed is a stupid drug that if you let if **** you up you're a reerun. I'm not saying it's not fun because it's fun to have a bong rip every now and then and go fly fishing or kayaking and look at the world like "wow, I'm an ant in the universe" because it does offer insight if you allow it and laugh about it with friends. I'm pretty sure if you allow your life to get destoryed by weed you would have found something else like scratch tickets and cheesburgers to fill that empty spot in your life.

You can't protect people from themselves once they become adults. So short answer; weed isn't a gateway drug anymore than cigarettes or chewing tabacco. Hell, alcohol is one of the most destructive drugs I've ever witnessed.

You can't save people from themselves.

OP - I am a pot smoker and it has been a solid positive in my life. That said, my TL/DR story is this:

My son started smoking at 17. I disagreed (at his age and point in life). One time, they couldn't find any so they bought some Spice. My son died that night.

Point is, they are going to do it. It is in our culture and as you said; peer pressure. Educate them, let them, supply it and regulate it. I know that sounds extreme.

For the record, I do not believe it to be a gateway drug. I have no interest in any other drug, though I have done a few more in my lifetime in certain circumstances. The high IQ ones. :']

Life is a gateway drug. People have been doing drugs and alcohol since the beginning of recorded history so no is the answer to your question.

I think the gateway is in making the decision to break a law for a buzz. With drugs, deciding to use a completely illegal substance for that buzz.

I don't know anyone that's used pot and hasn't at least tried harder stuff, or would be willing if the opportunity was there. Once that decision is made to cross that threshold, it's easier to go further.

I know several people, myself included, where pot is the "hardest" drug that they have tried

While we're on the subject why don't these pot smoking geniuses who develop all the super potent strains develop a super potent strain that doesn't stink so damn bad? The genius of developing a contraband product that is so easy to detect is dumb. The pot theses days is so odorous you'd be a fool to even have it on your person when away from the house. Shooowey!
