Thank goodness Hootie is back so we can have these terrible roundabout arguments over the same three QB's over and over again for the next 6 months.

if Peyton Manning played on the Patriots, would the Patriots still have 3 Super Bowls...and would Tom Brady even exist?

I am not convinced the Niners would be better off with any of those QB's, by the way.
And I'm not quite sure how you think Cam Newton is better than Colin Kaepernick...because, you know...he had quite the defense last year, too...and I don't recall seeing him in the NFC Championship game. but you can fact check me on that and Drew Brees is another "one good playoff run" QB. I'm going golfing. |

Playoff career: Kaepernick: 58% completions, 229 yds/game, 7 TD, 5 INT Smith: 58% completions, 291 yds/game, 9 TD, 0 INT Where Kaepernick blows Smith out of the water is rushing the football. He averages 84 yards a game running in the playoffs. History usually says the guy with the better passing stats is your best bet though. |

Tell me how that is relevant. Now if you would have asked if Brady and Manning would have switched teams back when Brady played for N.E. and Manning played for Indy would Brady have won 3 SuperBowls and his team routinely beat Manning, I would answer "no".

In Kaepernick's playoff games, the defense has allowed an average of 23.6 ppg. In Smith's three playoff games the defense has allowed 32.3 ppg. This is the same BS as people who blame Trent Green or Priest or anyone for the 2003 playoff loss. It's completely disingenuous. |

Just for the record, Peyton Manning's playoff record when his defense gives up 32 or more points is 1-3. Tom Brady's is 0-2. Joe Montana's is 0-2. John Elway's is 1-4.
That's a 2-11 record with maybe the four greatest QBs ever. And one of those wins was "The Fumble" game. If not for one of the all-time sports miracles it might have been 1-12. |

Really, the only defense of Alex Smith is, "all he does is win". Until he doesn't win, like going 2-6 in the last 8 games last year. The double standard is ridiculous. Remember that Jets rookie QB that went apeshit in the postseason, something like 4-2 and a 3:1 TD:INT ratio? The majority here said he was carried by his defense. But when Alex Smith gets carried by his defense, as he has for the majority of his "2nd career" (last 3 years) all we hear is, "all he does is win." THAT'S completely disingenuous. |
