It really is amazing. Having good pitching is like a good QB in football. You aren't guaranteed to make the playoffs but you at least expect to be in that 8-8 range, you'll compete.

This staff is going to probably give up eventually, but only the Royals could actually finally build a pitching staff that could realistically be one of the top 5 of the AL, and try to lose 100 games in the process. Really amazing.

It's a long held myth that pitching wins. It doesn't. Neither does good hitting. The only thing that matters is run differential. You cannot be dismal at either and win. Cameron at Fangraphs reiterated this earlier this ear when he blasted Hawk Harrelsln for claiming pitching and defense wins. Well you certainly can't be abysmal offensively. But I'd rather have great pitching and average offense over the opposite. The Giants won the World Series last year in a game where Ryan Theriot was their DH. They had one guy hit more than 12 HRs during the season. Only three guys had double digits, and one of them was suspended for the playoffs.
