2019 NFL Draft Tidbits

It's getting closer so I figure we could move some draft talk to the Lounge.

Charles Robinson usually has some good tidbits on stuff so heres a thread on some stuff he's hearing.

That’s fine. What data are you using to make this argument? PFF?

I agree with you that Breeland is a better CB, but PFF had Nelson with a better grade in 2018 and them about the same in 2017.

Even if they are the same player, I'd much rather be paying Breeland up to $5m as opposed to $8.5m average for Nelson.

PFF doesn't support your thesis. Your argument is based off of your eye test? What metrics are you using in your analysis?

Breeland was playing as one of the best corners the weeks 10-17 according to pff. Yes, the ****ing eye test you can see. Watch the all-22. Nelson isn’t a better corner.

Ian Wharton tweeted about it too

@NFLfilmstudy Chiefs are a year late on signing Bashaud Breeland but he's an upgrade on Steven Nelson. More fluid, stronger through contact. Not the athlete, but much more consistent with technique

PFF had Nelson rated higher overall due to his early season and the fact that he played all season.

Breeland was the higher-ranked CB, according to PFF, weeks 10-17.

In other words, the further Breeland gets from his injury problems, the better he plays and he ended the season as a better CB than Nelson.

Passer rating allowed weeks 10-17 (when Breeland was actually playing)

1). Xavien Howard 38.0
2). Bashaud Breeland 39.8
3). Malcolm Butler 40.4
4). Marcus Peters 45.1
5). Ahkello Witherspoon 48.6

Jachai Polite's stock has done nothing but drop. But are his explanations enough to warm teams back up to him? Physically he claimed he's injured, mentally he said he made a mistake and learned from it. The tape doesn't lie. He has elite bend and great technique. At Florida he's shown versatility being asked to play in both a 4-3 and 3-4. His primary concerns include a lack of size, length, and work-ethic.

He has first round value but due to concerns could be had with our 63rd overall pick. Do you take him?

These “at risk” players are starting to concern me.

We’ll see, I’ll have a better answer closer to draft. Stay tuned.

NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein wrote on Twitter that he believes that Florida DE Jachai Polite may not be drafted until the fourth or fifth round.

Every spring sees a player or two absolutely bomb out during the evaluation process due to character, poor testing or injury, but it's rare that we see a Round 1 talent put it all together for the Triple Crown of poor draft seasons. That has been Polite, reportedly a nightmare interview who has been hampered by hamstring issues in testing and whose tests themselves have been downright disappointing. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline was still hearing around Polite's pro day this week that there were some teams keeping the door open for a potential first-round selection of the Florida enigma, but noted that that lot is drying up fast. We can't honestly remember the last good piece of Polite news that we have heard this spring.
