Andrew Luck's best year, to date, was his rookie year.

Again, paper stats don't mean a thing to me, it's context. The Raiders lost last year, and lost bad, because Carr was atrocious. He put up some stats in lopsided games in the 4th quarter. Big deal.

He was the 3rd worst QB in the NFL last year ... only Josh McCown and Blake Bortles were worse.

Better rookie year than Luck? LOLOLOL

QBR is basically the football version of baseball WAR. Start using it.

Kind of shocked me but looking it up Carr had a higher QBR and completion %.

you're looking at the wrong numbers ...

the old age QBR of the NFL is totally ****ing worthless

it really is ... it means nothing. It takes nothing into context. It weighs a meaningless 1 yard TD pass in the 4th quarter of a game where your team is down by 60 the same as a game winning, 35 yard TD pass with no time on the clock with 3 guys in your face.

this is what you want to look at: http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr

It's the best tool available to judge a QB's ACTUAL play.

just go back through the years since that tool became available and you'll notice the top 10 is always littered, for the most part, with the truly elite NFL QB's

I'm with Hootie obviously.

With Geno there was at least NFL QB skill you could see. It was and is a question of his mental fortitude at the NFL level.

Carr I don't see the NFL QB skill.

He played 3 fulls years in College. 1630 passes thrown.

23yo NFL rookie and did a whole lot of nothing.

Raider or no, this argument against Carr is absolute bullshit in contrast with 8 the million excuses Smith gets for being a mediocre POS.

Boo, Chiefsplanet. BOO.

Hootie wants to pick and choose- Wants to only look at Carrs YPA when it's already been proven that YPA numbers are based on what a WR does after catching the ball

Pretty sure the Raiders went into last year with the thinking of short passes, to get their rookie QB experience, played it safe type throws- It's what I would do if I had to play a rookie QB- Hooties gonna tongue punch his own fart box after this year when Carr puts up excellent numbers

That's why comparing Peyton Manning to John Elway by numbers is pointless ... and comparing Peyton Manning's rookie year to Andrew Luck's rookie year is pointless. Totally different leagues. Totally different contexts.
I think you have to take each QB on a case by case basis.

Cam Newton came in and put up big numbers in his rookie, in part, bevause he competed against some the best and more complex college defenses, and because he was able to make big plays with his athletic ability.

Derek Carr's biggest issue is accuracy.
Poor accuracy is often the result of poor footwork.
In college, he wasn't lining up under center all that often, and the defenses he competed against weren't all that complex.

He is having to learn and adjust his mechanics on the job, and he doesn't have the athletic ability to make plays when things break down like Newton.

There is no guarantee that he will get it, but he might well have benefited greatly from sitting and learning for a year, giving him a chance to get the mechanics to become second nature.

Why would you? If you don't like Smith and think he's going to play poorly enough to be cut, then that would happen in a year or two.

If you traded him and got Carr, you'd have to invest multiple years after that deal seeing if he would pan out, when there are so far no indications that he will.

It would be better to start over in the draft.

It would always be better. Unfortunately, Chiefs don't do that.

How long will it take for Alex Smith to lead the Chiefs to 30 points in a game this year?
