This is, IMO, a big problem with the "franchise WR" model. Dude is being paid like the best player on the field, so we have to feed him. Of course, you also have to feed him because you can't afford to build a competent receiver corp to support him.

One injury late, your offense is done.

Yep, I mentioned it in another thread this morning - the Raiders offense got WORSE because they gave Carr tunnel vision.

Anyway!

This game will be fascinating, because I have these teams down as evenly matched.

Full strength, I'm a big believer in the Chargers, but losing Keenan Allen again turns their amazing offense into a merely very good offense. And if that's the case, we should be able to gum up their works enough, even without McDuffie on the field. Our secondary is deeper in talent than their WR room.

Can the DL hold up against the run. Can Bolton and Gay improve on their run fits from Week 1. The Chargers run game looks to be a lot stronger on paper than it was last year. If the DL can mostly manage the run game (that is a big if), then I think we have what it takes to take this game more often than not. My fear is that the Chargers run game is on, and it compromises our secondary's integrity and now the game is wide open.

I am going to safely assume that they're going to give Wylie a ton of help to manage Mack and Bosa, and this is the first game OBJ has to prove his mettle, because we just don't have the manpower to give him a lot of help. If he can hold up on an island, I think we take this game more often than not. If OBJ struggles, the offense is going to get gummed up.

But if Mahomes consistently gets a pocket, can he consistently beat 8-man drops with a spy? The Chargers are not idiots, they're not going to blitz him 50% of the time like the Cardinals did. And even without JC Jackson, they're deep in the secondary. This is going to be the first clear indication of how good this WR room is.

I want to see injury reports before I weigh in on this game. But I still think these teams are about equal with maybe a leg up for the Chiefs, given that there's no Keenan Allen in this game.

Run fits-lol Cards RB's gained less than 75 yards and they held the midget to 29 yards on the ground. The Cards had 7 points deep into the 3rd quarter. Even after garbage yards- it was a dominating performance.

If you need to see an injury report to pick the Chiefs, you are an idiot!

Draw conclusions from the film, brother. Not the stats. There’s more happening every play than the box score.

Felt like they were a bit softer in their run fits than they were in the preseason. But hey, maybe you saw something different.

The Chargers are loaded, buddy. They are ****ing loaded. They have All Pro caliber talent at every position but RB and LB. The Chiefs, meanwhile, are clearly operating like a well oiled machine, feature the best QB in the NFL and are probably the best coached team in the NFL.

It’s going to be a dogfight, and both teams may be kneecapped by the loss of an outstanding player.

Let’s see who suits up.

So loaded they barely got by the Faders even though Carr gifted them 3 interceptions.

They have to come into Arrowhead for our season opener and try to stop the best coach and QB in the NFL. Chiefs by 10.

When you have a new toy, it's hard to not want to play with it and ignore the old ones...

One of the reasons I'm glad the Chiefs have a group of receivers with one A+ and multiple B+ receivers instead of two A+ and multiple C receivers.

Check back; even during the Philip rivers years the Chargers were a tough out. Don’t just look at the result, check the boxscore at the very least. Hell twice LA led by Rivers came within a score of beating a Mahomes-led team were it not for timely INTs by the defense.

And one of those games last season it was their HC’s boneheaded decision to go for it on 4th-and-anything-from-anywhere that killed them more than anything Andy did.

I wonder if JC Jackson plays on Thursday. He missed the Raider game and is easily the best corner on the Chargers.

How much time was left when the starters went out?

Aside from the injuries, our guys should be feeling a little better than the Chargers, who had to play hard the entire game.

Also, didn't the Chargers sit their starters in the preseason?

If so, I'd imagine they will be dealing with more soreness and shit, and the short week would likely impact them more. Not to mention they have to travel.

If Allen doesn't play on top of all this, I really like our chances.

Neither Allen or McDuffie are playing IMO. Not with this quick turnaround. It’s also week 2.

Agreed.

Also, and maybe i'm wrong here, but was Jaylen Watson seeing all the snaps when McDuffie went out rather than Joshua Williams?

Yes he was, Spags hinted that he would be the next guy up in the preseason.

I don't think it's a knock on Williams, he's just taking more time to adjust to the significant jump he's made to the NFL level.

Snap counts here I think. Looks like Watson got about double Williams' total - https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2022...des-scantling/

Both looked pretty good to me minus the garbage time TD Watson gave up.
