In this thread: All things related to the AL Champions.

Duncan's Official Team Record prediction: 90 wins
Duncan's Official Team MVP prediction: Eric Hosmer

I can't wait for this season to start. The AL Central should be a very entertaining race. I'll give brief thoughts on each team the Royals must contend with to make it back to the postseason - strengths and weaknesses.

Detroit Tigers:
Strength: The offense is still full of powerful hitters, and Miguel Cabrera may be healthier.
Weakness: Rotation is questionable after Price and Sanchez, bullpen continues to be horrible.

Cleveland Indians:
Strength: Great manager and a deep, versatile lineup.
Weakness: The rotation is a question mark past Corey Kluber, and even he has a few questions about him.

Chicago White Sox:
Strength: 1-2-3 combo of Sale, Quintana and Samardzija is pretty formidable. Offense is anchored by Jose Abreu, too.
Weakness: Defense still has major questions, and this team has 20 games to improve by if it really wants to make the playoffs.

The Royals will be a division winner IF ...
1) Ventura and Duffy combine for 375+ innings of high-quality work
2) Eric Hosmer delivers on his potential with a FULL season of success rather than bursts
3) The deeper bullpen lessens the critical load on Herrera, Davis and Holland
4) Lorenzo Cain stays healthy
5) Either Alex Rios or Kendrys Morales bounces back to 2013 form

Seven days from when the suspension starts. So you appeal it long enough to get to a spot where you can sit him, and he actually only misses one start.

This is probably why Finnegan got called up. They'll likely use Chris Young to cover the suspension games, and possibly Yohan Pino. Either way, the team will need another long guy to get through the suspension of Volquez and Ventura (and probably Herrera).

Volquez should appeal, pitch tomorrow, and then drop his appeal. Take the 5 games and pitch in the 6th day.

Ventura got 7 for saying "**** you" after being called a "bundle of sticks" by Eaton?
Samardjia got 5 for instigating a fight?

I don't mind that Eaton wasn't suspended, because I don't think Ventura should be either. Neither started a physical altercation. Players should be suspended for physical altercations, not trash talking. These are grown men. The guys that throw punches and tackle people are responsible for their own actions.

Something interesting I found while reading about today's suspensions.

Ventura was suspended for seven games today. Back in 1994, current White Sox manager Robin Ventura was still a player. Nolan Ryan hit him in the back with a pitch, Ventura charged the mound, Ryan put in him in a headlock and gave him a good half dozen punches to the face before they were broken up. Ryan was not suspended and Ventura was suspended for two games.

How long do you think Ventura and Eaton would be suspended today if that was the altercation they had Thursday?

Samardjiza should have had the longest suspension, in my opinion. He's the only one who actually touched somebody hard enough to do any damage (at least that we could see on camera outside of the giant melee). Especially since it was a coach that he shoved over. Unless I'm missing something, I don't really understand why Ventura, Cain, or Herrera are getting suspended. Sale, Samardjzia, and Volquez were the only ones I saw who actually touched (or in Volquez's case, tried to punch and missed) anyone.

Exactly. But if Ventura is suspended, Eaton should be too. It should be all or nothing. It makes no sense for Ventura to get 7 games and Eaton to get 0 when they did the exact same thing.
