Anyone heard a rumor that Clemson and Florida State are considering a jump to the Big 12? I saw it on a North Carolina board, so not sure if its just rumblings over there, and I haven’t seen where this rumor started.

So here is an article:
http://saturdayblitz.com/2012/05/04/...s-run-rampant/ Since the rumor is a pretty strange one, my guess (hope) is that they are seeking leverage to get power back from the hoops powers in the ACC. Worst case scenario is for them to move to the SEC - single conference moving to 16 teams would likely cause other conferences to do the same, and conference armagedon would be here again.

Texas, TT, OU, Ok St would likely go to the Pac-12. UConn to the ACC. Rutgers to the BIG. That still leaves 4 spots. You'd think the most desired schools would be, what? Louisville, TCU, KU, WVU? K-State? Maybe Boise St? Georgetown and Marquette not having football would be big hurdle for them. Unless the ACC or BIG wants to do something funky like add Georgetown for hoops and Boise St for football.

Unless the North Carolina schools make a serious commitment to football, the ACC will be a tad shaky.

Things I've read:
Big XII is primed to sign a contract extension with ESPN on 1st Tier rights that could approach just under 21 million per team. Extension includes an extension of the "grant of rights" by member schools from 6 to 13 years. New AD, which is old news now Happy with 10 right now, but would look at expansion for "the right two", largely rumored to be FSU and Clemson Speculation is that escalators in the contract would push revenues to around 25 million per team after including the Conference Championship Game in Dallas Would stop at 12 and wait to see what happens. If conference goes to 14, it won't be until the 2014 season. Conference won't go to 16 unless and until Notre Dame makes its decision. Louisville rumored to be part of 13 and 14. Plans for a sister station to the LHN for Big XII teams that want to pool their 3rd Tier rights If we go back to 12, format wouldn't necessarily be the same as last time. Conference looks to maximize "prime time matchups" to get greatest return in contract escalator. Setting aside fund to help ease buyouts for potential new members Postseason tiered payouts. TV money still split equally, but teams who finish higher get paid slightly more (to help cover costs). Rumored: 1st Tier: 1-15, 2nd Tier 16-25, 3rd Tier: NR. KU was for this as this pertains to NCAA Tourney as well. A reported good "feeling and fraternity" from the member institutions, meeting were focused on making the Big XII stronger.

If they go to 16 team leagues then the ACC or Big East will cease to be. Big East is hanging on by a thread now, propped up by its basketball success but losing two of its biggest basketball schools shortly.

30 mil plus 3rd tier? Guess that's ok for a conference in shambles.

I could see the PAC taking 4 from the XII and the SEC adding 2 from the ACC, but I don't see the B1G going to 16. 14 would make sense with ND and Rutgers or Pitt. Then, the viable programs left over will create a new fourth conference. That would be my guess, anyway.
