What would be interesting is if Solo dying is actually a red herring and one of the other mains dies.

Chewbacca dying would turn on even MORE waterworks. It'd be like killing the family dog.

And actually makes a lot of sense because Mayhew doesn't move well anymore.

There are so many dopey theories out there and no one knows the true story line. I read on EW or a similar site where it was suggested that Poe Dameron dies early, which is silly since he's already signed on for Episode 8.

I do like that Abrams/Kasdan used the name Starkiller for the base seen in the latest trailer footage.

RA Salvatore already killed Chewie in the now-defunct EU. I don't see them going that route again.

I'd say Leia but she's the only returning female. Maybe Lando offscreen. Or maybe the Falcon itself. They played it like a character in the last trailer.

Looks like Lego may have leaked some minor characters (bottom left image):

The other logical choice for dying would be Leia. Would definitely be a reason for Luke to come out of hermit phase like Yoda and Obi-Wan also came out of.

He senses her death, which throws off the balance. That imbalance stirs him out of solitude, thus the Force is awakened because he has to come back and help restore the balance within the universe.

Probably not how the plot ends up, but there's always been this talk alluding to both Luke and Leia being strong with the Force, yet we've never seen her display the ability to harness it. Plus, we know the two are empathic with one another. So, you'd guess the daughter of Darth Anakin and the brother of Luke dying would qualify as a major disturbance in the Force.

At least big enough to "awaken" Luke from extended holiday.

I kinda wish they'd explore that idea for the new plot line...

I fully expect more than one main character to die by the time IX is finished.

Not sure how I feel about the rusty arm. I hope there's an explanation.

Could C3PO's arm be a different color due to he got the other one blown off and they didn't have any Gold ones laying around so they just gave him that one temporarily so he can function?

I mean it was kinda goofy how during many battles both him and Artoo are able to just meander through a bunch of blaster fire and not get a singe or anything.

On to the Deaths, Can anyone find out who is signed on for Ep 8? I mean that would be the cheat method unless they do some "flashback" type thing.

My Thoughts on a major character or arc I could imagine is killing off Leia. Wasn't there a story line about one of the Solo Twins killing off Mara Jade whom Luke was married to? Well instead of the twin killing Mara since this is a new direction, why not kill off Leia and have the same reaction from Luke to his sister dying. He lost his shit when Vader said he was going to turn her to the Darkside. What would he do if his sister got killed by the big bad in this one? Would he fall to the darkside in Ep 8 and then be redeemed in Episode 9 by someone?

C3PO's arm is probably just to show the passage of time. They never felt the need to explain his silver leg in the original trilogy (though admittedly that was less noticeable). It'll probably be addressed in a comic book or novel or something.
