Okay, so half a century. In other words, this kind of life-threatening injury just doesn't happen very often. But serious injuries, yeah, that's happened, and they have a script for it. I saw both the Byrd injury and many years later the Shazier one during the broadcasts, and among other things, I could tell that they'd come up with a program for how to deal with neck/back injuries. Same with concussions, right? They have it down to a checklist.

Players almost dying doesn't come up that often, so it's probably not in the book.

The thing a lot of med twitter was saying was that an NFL field is one of the most ideal places in the world for a severe event like this to happen.

I think back to that baseball player who had an aneurysm in his bullpen, and even EB’s early diagnosis.

The only other instances I can think of are College/High schools kids that have some type of medical emergency during game/practice.

A lot of respect for the first person to get CPR started. Said it earlier that most probably thought it was a head injury. When they noticed he was pulseless that must have been a shock for sure.

Yes those of us who think our work is stressful, man, I can't imagine what a scenario like tonight is like for them. Mad respect for those people.

Bills are flying back home so I guess there goes the “they’ll play tomorrow night” theory.
