So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

The Rays have received some trade inquiries about Wil Myers, but do not seem apt to deal him, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times writes. “The guy we saw last year was injured and didn’t really have a chance to demonstrate what he has,” says Rays executive Matt Silverman. “We look at him as a rookie of the year who really missed most of the season and expect him to be back in that form as a formidable bat in the middle of the lineup who also plays a pretty good outfield.” The Rays are widely expected to deal an outfielder this offseason, but that will likely be David DeJesus or Matt Joyce; as Topkin notes, trading the 2013 ROY-winning Myers after a down season would be selling low.

Ban MFJ from the thread. This is a Royals thread, and he's spamming it with White Sox shit.

Absolutely. I've been interested in getting him back cheap for a while, and it seems like it can be done.

Good read on a very interesting player. Sox should win 10 more games this year than last and that's a problem for us since that makes us even as of today (analytically)

I'd be curious to see the track records of big money closers acquired via trades and free agency. Seems like a high bust rate.

Luke Gregerson and Pat Neshek both signed big deals this morning ($6 million/AAV for each). In addition to making the Luke Hochevar deal look pretty strong, they help the Royals because...

The relief market is shrinking. Jason Grilli, Rafael Soriano, Janssen, K-Rod and Sergio Romo are the names that are left out there if you want a closer. The setup man market is even thinner (Fat **** Chamberlain, Motte, Chris Perez, Axford).

This is the right type of environment in which to trade your elite closer. If you're a contender, you can probably "get by" with one of those guys as your 9th inning guy, but none are stars.

Holland's value should be at its peak now. If they're going to move him, this is the time.

Give me Gee and Myers, and I'm happy with the off-season.

Billy Wagner, Jonathan Papelbon and K-Rod all come to mind as successful free agent closer signings.

There are a lot of busts out there, though.

Yes, and the one team who needs to improve their bulletin the most hasn't done anything yet, which also happens to be the team that has a surplus of outfielders, which is what we need one of.
