Pagano Tosses Luck under the bus

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ck-after-loss/

Frustrated Pagano tough on Luck after loss

Posted by Zac Jackson on September 22, 2015, 1:21 AM EDT
Chuck Pagano, Andrew Luck
AP
The Colts were a mess from the beginning Monday night and were ultimately doomed by five turnovers — three Andrew Luck interceptions — in a 20-7 loss to the Jets.

After the game, Colts coach Chuck Pagano didn’t try to hide his frustration with his quarterback and his team as a whole.

“He’s got to take care of the football,” Pagano said in his postgame press conference. “It’s not that hard. It’s not trigonometry.”

The simple math says that the Colts have scored three touchdowns and committed eight turnovers through two games, both losses.

“Can’t turn the damn ball over,” Pagano said.

Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star, who was at the game and at the postgame press conference, wrote that Pagano was “throwing Luck under the bus.”

While the Jets clearly frustrated Luck with a variety of blitzes and sometimes just by simply overpowering them in one-on-one battles in the trenches, Pagano hinted that Luck has to overcome his line’s shortcomings.

“[That has] been the case for three years now, hasn’t it?” Pagano asked. “He should be more than comfortable dealing with it.”

Herron was actually quite good with Indy last year ... but I'm glad this has turned into propping up Luck because he has no name RB's. What? Cool. You know, Arian Foster was once a no name RB.

I care 0% about NFL RB's. It's not a running league. The Patriots hired Dion Lewis away from the Sonic drive thru and he looks like Marshall Faulk.

I'm sorry that I'm not giving Andrew Luck a pass for playing on a "garbage" team when his "garbage" team shared a division with Tennessee, Houston and Jacksonville.

I'm pretty sure Buffalo, Miami, NYJ, KC, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincy and Pitt would have all won that division if they were fortunate enough to switch places with Indy.

but hey, it sure is impressive that Luck could drag Trent Richardson to the playoffs beating up on Ryan Mettenberger Fitzpatrick Bortles ... as the Colts constantly used T-Rich as their #2 back ... but way to prop him up to make your argument look better

did you even watch the Colts last year?
Bradshaw did play well, but he didn't even lead the team in carries. He got 90 carries on the season. And how many playoff carries did he get?

Zero.

So now you're arguing that Bradshaw helped carry Luck with his 90 regular season carries, and also in the playoffs when he didn't get a single carry. I totally agree. Reid should probably cut Charles workload down so he gets 90 carries, and Davis gets the rest.

Gotcha.

Man!

Let's talk about Russell Wilson's leading Super Bowl receiver ... a guy inactive all year long ... and didn't make his first catch until the Super Bowl.

Holy shit! I wonder what he could have done with T.Y. Hilton, Reggie Wayne, Donte Moncrief, Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen!??!?!

!!!!!!

Two can play this idiotic game.

Can't help but agree that Russell Wilson is a smarter and more efficient QB. People on here making excuses for Luck that he has no receivers and no o-line should look at what the Seahawks have given Wilson. Wilson has simply done that much better with less around him (granted, he does have a much better defense).

I've always said you don't need great WRs or CBs to win a Super Bowl. I've said that from the beginning of time. I don't know what argument you think you're winning. I wasn't too hot on resigning Bowe, Carr, or Flowers. And I probably won't be too hot on re-signing Peters. Good teams can draft those positions, even in the lower rounds.

So now we've circled the the entire argument. Luck isn't carrying his team because a QB isn't as important as the entire team, but the RB, WR and defense doesn't matter. So, that leaves...

You give Luck a defense that allows 15 points per game, and watch what happens.

Honestly, give Alex Smith a defense that allows 15 points per game, and watch what happens. The Chiefs would probably get the #1 seed.

I definitely think Luck carries the Colts. I think Wilson carries the hawks, Romo carries the cowboys and Brady carries the pats, too. I'm just scoffing at the notion of Luck being dealt some rough hand when he has played in the weakest division in NFL history during his time in Indy

And if this turns into a "lynch and Seattle's defense carries Seattle" argument I bow out before it starts ... I'm just done arguing about that. In fact, I'm done either way.

Gore had a solid season last year. It's the line that is making him look bad, let's be real. Andre Johnson tho I've worried for years that he would go out and break and his hip, he looked really tired out there this week.

But what I'm saying is that Luck has had great receivers and a quality O-line and his efficiency still lags behind Wilson who has struggled to find quality receivers with the instability of Harvin, the departure of Tate, and shoddy tight ends.

And you consider he is practically undefeated in his division and barely .500 against the rest of the AFC, makes you question how 'elite' he is when he is playing against shit defenses so far in his career. Well except for the last two games and in the playoffs in the past, his true form shows. Pagano is spot on to say that Luck needs to stop turning over the ball in competitive games.

It's definately nice to be in that division. Luck definately has a bad Oline and they didn't do the best job assembling the team around him, but a great QB will carry that heap of shit. I'm sure when it's all said and done he will.

Please remain a dumbass Chiefs fan, even after Alex is long gone. You fit in to the Stepford program nicely.

and hell, this board has turned me into a Brady apologist at this point, too.

Andrew Luck is not an elite QB and has never been an elite QB up to this point in his NFL career.

He has not carried that team to anything other than OBVIOUS division championships over the worst division in the NFL.

The crowning of Andrew Luck is ridiculous. Last year the entire board just took a giant shit on Russell Wilson in the NFCCG thread for playing terrible football and no one said a damn word about Luck playing even worse in the AFCCG that night.

Andrew Luck has been nothing more than Philip Rivers good (at best) to this point of his career.

He doesn't deserve any excuses for how lousy he played last night. If that was Romo, he would have been KILLED. Instead? Stupid Pagano! OMG GM, get him in a line!?!??!?!!??! WTF!

he gets every excuse imaginable for playing garbage football ... that doesn't mean I hate him, it just means, unlike this board, I'm realistic

Saw an interesting stat in an article I read about the Colts' woes:

Andrew Luck's BEST QB rating (or QBR, whichever) for a year thus far in his career isn't as good as Manning's WORST.
