Football ESPN Outside the Lines Report: Goodell went easy on Spygate - Page 10

It's been all over ESPN Radio all morning. Report says that Goodell threw the book at Brady because he gave them a break on Spygate.

I didn't hear it all, but they alleged that the NFL destroyed evidence because they videoed a shitton of practices and Goodell wanted to limit the exposure to a few games. They said that Belichick even admitted to doing like 40 games but Goodell covered it up.

A couple other points that were brought up that were interesting was that Martz came out and said Goodell asked him to put out a statement saying he was satisfied with the investigation for the good of the league and he is absolutely not.

Also, the reporter said that former Pat players admitted to the Pats sending a low level guy to the other lockerroom while they were warming up to steal the scripted plays that most teams start with.

I haven't seen the piece, but a lot of the things this reporter spouted off were pretty damning. Usually OTL is pretty good, but this had a lot of conspiracy theory tone to it.

Has anyone read it?

I disagree, to be honest. A 1st round pick is very valuable. You're looking at a player who should outperform, relative to hsi cap number, for a good four years, and who may be a solid player (or better) for your team for 10 yeasr, if it's a good pick.

We took Logan Mankins, one of the best guards in the league for much of his career (not THE best, but top 5), at the number 32 spot. Losing a guy like that definitely hurts your club.

"didn't seem to stop them"? From doing what? More cheating that there's no proof of? Seems to me the Patriots are being endlessly punished for Spygate, which is kind of an overblown situation in and of itself:

1. stealing signals? Legal.

2. taping anything you want from certain parts of the stadium? Legal

3. taping signals from the wrong part of the stadium? HOLY SHIT, RAIN FIRE ON THEIR HEADS.

Kind of weird. But again, whatever. Perception > reality.

The Patriots are that guy in the battleship game who keeps calling out "miss" until you finally say, "There are no other spots for the aircraft carrier to be." And then you walk through all of your guesses and they say, "Oh, I must've misheard you on D6", but that's after you've wasted a ton of guesses trying to find the carrier when you should've won.

Yeah. They're delusional. We all know it, and I'm completely over their denial. They can pound their chests at the top of **** mountain all they want. Perception is reality and the perception is they're a bunch of cheating frauds. I'm good with that.

Because they are. The NFL rights rules and they have broken them as much as possible. They do whatever they can to find loopholes as well. Grown men doing what they can to cheat or deceive instead of just playing fair. Don't we teach our kids to play fair?

The fact that the Pats can't be trusted to give the visiting team a fair shake at their stadium is truly pathedic.

New England just happened to have Manning's number every year in the playoffs.

Well, I guess they didn't need to cheat for that, but they probably did anyway.

Manning wheezed out in the playoffs against alot more teams than the Patriots. Dude only made 3 SBs out of, whatever, 17, and the Patriots were the roadblock in only 4 of them or whatever.

Pretty much anytime he went up against a tough, physical team that played smart, his finesse team collapsed like a house of cards.

All he had to do was see him cut to the inside, then be fast enough to get over there. He was in 1-1 coverage and just had to go where his guy was. Front CB held up his guy from getting the pick they were expecting to slow the Pats DB up from getting there. It doesn't take a spy to figure it out, just took a WR not getting off the line fast and deep enough.

I don't believe the bolded is actually true. The rules disallow taping signals from anywhere that club staff is allowed. Other rules (TV regulations) disallow any taping from the stands. I don't think taping signals is legal, no matter where you are taping from.

I'm pretty sure the location thing is just a cop-out that Pats fans try to use.
