I don't have any particular like for Goodell. To me, he's just a guy who acts on behalf of the owners. People are buttburt over rule changes--that would happen without Goodell. The league is concerned about liability and getting its players injured. I don't have to like the rules, but I understand why they are there.
Goodell decides the punishments. I am pretty sure he set the agenda to make player conduct and stopping horseplay on the field. I am pretty sure the marketing gimmicks that threaten the integrity of the game were the result of Goodell selling them in, not the other way around. While the owners messed up during the lockout, it was Goodell that led the laughable pr campaign that blew up completely in the owners' face. It's Goodell who made the dumbass idea to extend the draft and play Thursday night football, and now he wants more night games? And sorry, but yes, his refusal to acknowledge domestic violence and player safety was a leadership decision on his part.

The idea that he is a shill for the owners is a load of shit. Not only does he have no backbone, he proactively sells stuff in that is turning the game into a circus.
