We don't play all 53 guys, there's room for Russel to stick and develop. I can't believe it's even in the discussion to let him go, Jesus some of you are stupid.

We have our top three CB's, and traded for another outside CB for depth and ST's... And he's experienced for a ****ing 7th.

Here are five things to know about the newest Chiefs player:

A pleasant surprise

While the Chiefs were making moves on the field during the preseason game against the Chicago Bears, the front office was making moves of its own, acquiring cornerback Acker from the San Francisco49ers.

Back like he never left

Acker was drafted by the 49ers in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. That year, Acker played through the preseason with a stress fracture in his left foot and was placed on injured reserve shortly after the diagnosis. He returned for the 2015 season and earned the starting cornerback job before San Francisco's regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Acker played a team-high 56 defensive snaps in a 20-3 victory against the Vikings and tallied up 3 interceptions, 8 pass deflections and 58 solo tackles that season.

A man of many hats

Growing up, Acker was an avid athlete in both football and basketball, ultimately deciding to focus his efforts on football. During his time at Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, Acker showed his versatility in the game playing quarterback, running back, wide receiver and kicker, and eventually the corner position.

Playmaker

Acker was featured on ESPN's SportsCenter as a top play of the week for a punt return in high school in the 50-14 win over the Central Catholic Rams during the Class 6A football playoffs.

The play raked in over a million views on the internet, having been featured on sites like Yahoo!, Rivals and Deadspin.com

Help in the secondary

Chiefs' general manager John Dorsey spoke with the media following the game on Acker's trade.

"Last year he played basically 70 percent of the snaps with 3 interceptions. He's a special teams guy. He's got the measurables ... He's got athleticism. He's one of those that can help with special teams. He's a backup corner that can help us."

#1 Peters

In no particular order

Acker
Nelson
Gaines

Cooper
Russell
White

I think that the addition of Acker means the end of the line for Cooper

You're seriously reeruned if you expect every rookie to contribute at their maximum potential right away.

I cant see how anyone could have anything negative to say about this trade. Acker can play and fills an immediate need. So glad Chip Kelly likes to have fire sales...

I certainly would prefer having multiple chances, but winning one and then possibly being in trouble for a few years after is still a hell of a better more than KC has done in 45 years.

Didn't you know that every athlete progresses in a progressive line with no setbacks. It's always 2 steps forward, followed by 2 steps forward. If not you are a bust. Nobody ever "gets it" after a few years. Conversely, if a player shows skill in his rookie year he will never fall off the map. These things are known.

totally agree with this

I suspect russell will come up lame after gm4, and get himself a red shirt

I dig this trade personally. a 7th round pick 2 years away for en experienced CB for depth or sub package work and STer at worst, or CB2 starting outside best case scenario. i lean more on the worst case side, which is absolutely worth a 7th round pick 2 yrs away. Keeps Russell and White deep on the depth chart to develop.

I do think this pushes cooper off the roster.

I still think the point stands: Had Russell and White's draft positions been swapped, Russell would end up on the PS. He's been running with the 3's and 4's and hasn't shown much, if anything, against the lessor competition.
But Russell and White's draft positions were what they were precisely because of that potential. Russell's a better athlete with a higher ceiling. They didn't draw names out of a hat; they clearly saw more potential in Russell.

Their draft order isn't random, it's a reflection on the potential that the team sees in them and therefore their willingness to develop that potential. Guys that are drafted higher are given more time because teams saw things in them worth working to turn into production.
