It's a toss up. If you've already got a bunch of apple shit, then the AppleTV rocks for stuff like AirPlay, pulling up your photo stream, pulling in your music library from iTunes Match.
If you don't have any apple stuff, then go with the Roku. Either way...wait for the updates that they'll both have for the holidays. Since iOS is now 64bit there could be some wild stuff coming to the AppleTV soon. |

If only Apple had enlarged their screen. Even 4.5 inches would probably have culled a lot of wrath.

I wonder if the new software update will help any. I kinda doubt it. AppleTV has always been underwhelming on its own. I still use mine all the time, but then, I stream a lot from my PC through my iPad. |

I recently switched from the iphone 4s to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and if nothing else I absolutely love having a much larger screen.

Okay, I was 90% going for the S4, but then I found the Moto X? Anyone know anything about the Moto X? It's seems like a good compromise between the iPhone 5s and the S4 in size, talk time, and camera. Does anyone know how user friendly it is?

That's a definite advantage of the Nexus phones. At the same time, Google has been systematically converting all the cool stuff from OS features into apps, so you're not missing that much anymore.
And of course, there's always CyanogenMod... |

There's some nifty guides out there that tell you exactly what all you can safely disable regarding unnecessary apps that the manufacturer or carrier rolls out. It's handy to cut down the stupid bloat.
Here's the link for stock Galaxy S3: http://forums.androidcentral.com/spr...ck-rooted.html You can go into Application Manager, and disable them. But a better solution is to "Freeze" them, so that they'll stay disabled even after a reboot. I use an app called Titanium Backup to "Freeze" these built in apps. That prevents them from running automatically. Titanium Backup has additional advantages as well.
