http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1
NETGEAR R6300 Wireless AC1750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320115 ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 from my research these are the most popular, but my question is which is the most efficient since some reviews are sheer paid off positive and/or negative reports. So what are your guys opinion of the new 802.11ac routers presently out there? |

I recently installed an N router and its fine. The problem I see with jumping on ac is legacy device support. That might not be a problem with ac, but since I'm happy as a pig in shit with my N router that has a separate network segment for visitors, supports a g SSID for legacy devices and lets me turn any USB drive into network storage by plugging it in, I'm good for a while.
If performance is that critical, drag some wire. |

5.5 Mb from where? You might just have a bad unit.

I have a Cable One connection, and my desktop is a room away from my router.

5.5MB transfer over a dual N router is pretty lousy... Something isn't right there...

I'd plug into the router and test the speed there first. You might be getting hose by your ISP.
