Hug Your Family and Tell Them You Love Them Today - The Dog Too

I don't know about you guys but I didn't sleep a wink last night.

The events yesterday, though not of the same magnitude, reminded me the events of 9/11 and how we should all pull together at this time.

As I prepare to battle the masses in Houston's legendary morning rush hour traffic, I would like to encourage everyone to hug their family and tell them how much you love them today. Don't forget the family pet.

It's times like these that remind me of how fragile life is and how it can be over in the blink of an eye. We don't know what's coming and how long we have on this earth so let's cherish the time we have here.

We all have different political viewpoints and different opinions of things and that's OK. We're allowed to have them and that's what makes America great, why others want to come here, and why some people who don't have this freedom hate us.

We can respectfully disagree with each other, that's OK.

But no one, I mean no one will destroy America.

I definitely agree.

This kind of things makes me scratch my head. All day this morning I've heard about the 'perspective' this brings us and how it shows us all that sports are really just a game and that the things that matter in life are family...blah blah blah.

If you needed 100+ people that you'll never meet being injured in a city that most Americans will never visit to remind you of that, then no temporary re-calibration of your sense of perspective is going to matter.

I tell my wife I love her and give her a kiss every day before work. Same when she gets home from work (or something to the effect). Hell, before I go to bed each night I go and pet all 3 dogs, tell them that they're good dogs and give them a peck on the top of the head. One of these days I'll include a kid or two in those rounds as well.

Either you have a healthy handle on what's important in life or you don't. Yesterday's events shouldn't change that.

my dog must feel good; bastard was taking up the entire bed in the middle of the night, leaving me with about 6" of room. 85lb dog.

he sneaks up there in the middle of the night, and gradually takes up more and more room.

Honestly it took some pictures from Facebook to really refocus on how big the Royals series with Atlanta is tonight.

Honestly, massacres like the movie theater shooting and Sandy Hook shook me up a lot more than this event. Maybe it's because they occurred within the span of such a short time that I'm more used to tragic news than I have been in the past.

Either way, I'm not going to change my life one bit. I'm still going to tell my wife I love her every day, and I'm not going to do it BECAUSE a bombing in Boston happened.

This event was eerily similar to the 1996 bomb at the Olympics. And that's something people barely even talk about anymore.
