That article from the always reliable blacksportsonline, says that the 49ers were trying to trade Young for Thomas. The poster that originally brought this scenario up said Peterson was trying to trade for Young from 89 to 93.

Spot on. I do remember this now that I read it. But as you state, it was brought up by the Niners. I could never see Carl trading DT, Ever.

It was well known that Peterson wanted to get Young. He tried several times to get him. Young was a stud in the USFL when Peterson was the GM of the Philadelphia Stars.

Neither article says that Peterson was trying to trade Thomas for Young. All the "evidence" so far suggests that in 1989/1990, San Francisco tried to trade their as of yet unproven backup QB for Thomas.
