Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

No, it wasn't.

The 'comic' book version of the joker has changed, dramatically, over the years.

The original joker was a bloodthirsty lunatic who liked to used knives. Nolan's Joker is derived from the original character.

Nicholson's Joker was Jack playing Jack with Joker paint on. I like Jack, but that's what it was.

I still think that Ledger gets more credit than he deserves. It was a well written character... there are dozens of method actors who could have pulled it off in my opinion. I'm not sure how he kept magically transporting bombs to secured locations, but whatever... it's a goddamn movie.

Jack was also nominated for an Oscar for his Joker. Can't remember who the competition was but without Jack, Ledger may not have won.

That's a good point, man. But I was just thinking in terms of my own perspective. I don't really put too much stock into the Oscars. To me, personally, Ledger's joker was an incredible acting effort. I understand how to others it might not have seemed all that good. It's just a matter of opinion anyway.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Ledgers Joker. I just love Jack's Joker a little bit more.

Yeah, I got rid of that one fast, what I came to realize is that movies are often times meant to be an escape from reality, I have a feeling no one is going to watch The Avengers this weekend and complain that it's not "grounded in realism."

It was just Jack being Jack though.

I loved what he did, and I still think Jack and the sets are the only good things about that movie. He was just kinda doing his thing though.

Besides, Luke Skywalker was an awesome joker in the animated series.

When was the last time you watched Burton's Batman?

Jack's Joker was always killing underlings too. The Joker in the comics does it. That's just who he is.

Oh, I'll take this one. Michelle Pfeiffer, hands down.

Julie Newmar is second. Then there's a loooong gap to the other three.

I guess if we're actually talking about acting (for once) I'll reserve judgement until I see what Hathaway does with the part.

If we're talking about hotness (as I assume we always are), then, yeah, Halle Berry is the "best" Catwoman.

1) Julie Newmar
2) Eartha Kitt
3) Halle Berry
4) probably Anne Hathaway
483) Michelle Pfeiffer

Her part was not only dumb and campy, the idea of that skinny-ass blonde bitch kicking ass was just hilarious. It was even harder to fathom than Michael Keaton as a buff badass. I'll tell you, the Burton films are not holding up well over time. I watched the original "Batman" not too long ago (Keaton/Nicholson) and found the film reerunedly stupid, with awful plotting and dialogue, unbelievable actions, ridiculous overacting, etc.,. Sure, the film had an interesting style to it, but so did "Dick Tracy", which got pounded in the press and frankly wasn't much different from "Batman" aesthetically. We all thought the Burton "Batman"s were so cool and serious compared to the campy 60's Adam West stuff but, in truth, Burton's version is just a different version of campy (especially when compared to the grittiness of Nolan's works).
