Open World Cause Megathread
Update 8/4/14:
We did it! Thanks to your incredible support and our organizational partners around the world, we were able to break ground on a new school that will provide education to deserving students in a rural community in Nepal. In addition to providing educational access, the school will serve first hub of clean, running water for the community. We are now turning our sights to traveling to the school next summer to build a fourth classroom (this will allow the school to accept and educate every available child in the community) and teach a group of students for a month next summer. Any more of your support would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you all again. I should probably mention that my oldest daughter's biological father is from India. Thanks to her biological father's drive, and the American school system, she's a nurse. A damn good one.

Just a reminder. Chiefspants isn't even asking for a donation here. He's just trying to spread the word, to get his story out there.

I don't know all that much about the economy of Nepal, but this wiki entry alone should make the Nepalese like brothers in the hearts of Chiefs fans:

Couldn't get a soda at the driving range today. All I had left were some nepalese coins.

A 501C3 is also probably beneficial for them to legitimize themselves instead of funneling through other programs, as well. If they've done this much so far, I think it's pretty important to establish something like that. Where does the OP say, "If you could all donate that would be awesome!"? He's just trying to spread the word.

We are indeed working on a 501C3, but, the main purpose for establishing a 501C3 would be to legitimize ourselves as a non-profit organization. There will be a time where we will accept donations, however, we will always be more interested in establishing connections over contributions. We would always prefer to find someone who is interested in supporting and spreading the word about our cause as opposed a person who would donate five dollars and walk away forever.
Also, the more we talk about our mission, the higher the odds that someone will hear about it and know how to make a difference. For example, our project was just discovered by an individual heavily involved in Nepalseeds, or, one of the largest non profit organizations currently in Nepal. That connection was not established through a cash donation, but because individuals were spreading the word about our project. Thank you so much, your involvement means so much to us!
