That one's tougher due to limitations of the search function. However, using a bit of manual calculation, I came up with 344 poop threads in 2013 compared to 420 in 2012. So, believe it or not, there was less shit on the Planet this year than last.

EDIT: JUST READ WHAT DAFACE SAID ABOUT ALEXA ABOVE
Don't know how accurate this is, but according to Alexa, less than 50% of CP's traffic is from the United States. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/www.chiefsplanet.com Last edited by Buck; 07-24-2014 at 05:33 PM.. |

I randomly remembered this thread today and figured I'd update some stuff just out of curiosity. Here are a couple interesting things.
In terms of number of posts, things have definitely been slowing down here over the past few years. We hit our peaks in annual posts in 2009 (not shown) and 2013, which suggests that a new coach giving us hope after a few years in the dumps tends to drive a lot of conversation. On the other hand, you might say "See! Look what happens when Clay and Hootie get banned!" but the trend really started long before that, so I'm not sure that makes a huge difference. My personal take is just that shitty teams drive conversation. When no one trusts the coach and front office know what they're doing, it's easy to have a lot of thread about all the things they should be doing differently. When a common response is "I trust Dorsey and Reid. Let's see what happens." there's just not a lot of discussion to be had. That, in combination with a variety of other decent options for Chiefs news and discussion that have come around in the past 5 years or so, is quieting things down quite a bit. I find this one kind of fascinating. In 2011, we were averaging around twice as many threads posted per day as we did in 2015 (and are on pace for in 2016). If you needed evidence of how much of an impact mega threads have had on this place, there it is. (And for the record, posts are obviously down as well between the two years, but not by near that much of a ratio.) Anyway, there are obviously a million ways to look at this stuff, but those were the two that stood out to be as being kind of interesting. The end. |

The reason our post count has declined is because Clay isn't on her stating Alex Smith sucks 400 times a day.

By request from lewdog, here's the 2016 update of our overall posts by year.
Post count isn't everything - I think we're rather have high-quality content more than high-quantity content, but things are definitely slowing down around here. Here's the average number of people logged in per day: My guess is that most of the drop is due to the growth of a lot of other types of social media where people get their news, like ArrowheadPride, reddit, even the Chiefs themselves. I think the age of the flat forum is probably just plain coming to an end. But still, it's part of the motivation to try and see if we can make this place a little more attractive moving forward. |

It’s possible you’ve already done this, but I’d love to see an update of this graph in the Mahomes era. Did we get a boost? Or is it an inverted line where places like this thrive the most in misery? |

2000-2003 - Founding and rapid growth 2004-2013 - Continued steady growth 2014-2016 - The decline of the flat forum era 2017-2023 - The era of stability Beyond that, we saw our biggest growth spikes in posts in 2009 (frustration with the beginning of the Haley and Cassel era?) and to a lesser extent in 2020 (because WTF else did we have to to?) and 2022 (more to discuss with the revamped roster?). In general, though, things fluctuate a little bit from year to year these days, but I think we largely have our set user base, and it just goes up and down a little bit depending on what all we have to discuss. Anyway, here are the charts since you were interested. |

For this, we could define an active poster as someone who posted >=100 times within a calendar year. In-active poster being someone who has posted <100 times within a calendar year. Also, the mean users looks promising as it seems the forum isn't declining in people who view it when compared to previous years. 2019 maybe elevated due to the interest surrounding the team and the chase for the first ring with Reid/Mahomes and 2020 being an anomaly. |
