Earl Thomas a longshot to be a Chief

They just said on ESPN we were on the list of teams that he could be dealt to.

Theres no chance it ends up costing a first. I'd be surprised if it's more than just a single 2nd.

The addition of the contract is gonna lower the price and his age.

It's all of the above. The NFL is changing right before our eyes.

I think that argument is basically the same. The new fresh qb's are bringing a helluva lot of offense with them.

Either way, we have the offense and a new young stud QB. Go get Earl Thomas and let's fight for a Super Bowl!

No, Thomas would be worth more. Just leary of him signing long term.

This isn't a 12-game rental.

If he's coming here, it's for 3-4 years and large money.
Last I heard from the talking heads on ESPN was that a sign and trade is not possible in the NFL. You have to make the trade and then work out a contract. Just going off what I heard. No idea if thats true or not.

Why would ESPN get something that basic wrong? Are you telling me that Thomas and the Seahawks aren't trading Thomas without a long term deal in place with the new team?

I still don't like the scheme. BUT-it is what it is. If you can go get the players to run it this far into the season, your window is open NOW. Do it.

The Seahawks could agree to let the Chiefs and Thomas agent discuss an extension IIRC.

Same with the Bears and Khalil, that was done before they finalized the trade.

In the NFL, the Seahawks can workout the terms of a trade, in principle, with the Chiefs and then give the Chiefs permission to negotiate a deal with Thomas in good faith.

Both the Seahawks' compensation (draft picks) and Thomas' (money) can be worked out ahead of time.

ESPN is wrong. Go read the timeline of the Alex Smith deal and you'll see how it is done. Alex Smith was effectively traded before the league season even started.

The Seahawks give you permission to talk to him, you work out the deal, trade occurs he signs the contract when he comes in.

Yeah, the scheme isn't changing this year so it really isn't a discussion worth having anymore.

Getting rid of Sutton is an offseason decision. With the way Mahomes is playing now, we can't wait to do something different.

Try Thomas and change coordinators this spring if it doesn't quite pay off.

Andy Reid wouldn't talk specifically about Seattle's unhappy safety, Earl Thomas, and whether the Chiefs would be interested in trading for him. But he seemed to indicate they're not in that market when he said in talking about trades in general: "I know the rumors are out there but that's not where we're at

He has to say that. We already got nailed (undeservedly so) for tampering, no way he risks it again.

People also need to realize that, since Maclin, Reid will shoot down any and all talk of the team acquiring new personnel.
