NFL endorses criminal-justice reform bill in the midst of anthem debate
Quote:
Goodell's winking and nodding at the kneeling players will probably just encourage them to take it further, not make them respect the country again. The NFL will not be better off for bowing to them. Look at Mizzou. The NFL doesn't seem to understand what's happening here at all. Fans do not want the NFL to be political. Fans are not going to be amused by Roger Goodell wading into politics. ESPN has already made this mistake by becoming another politicized media outlet... it's fascinating that Goodell thinks the way to resolve the fan ire over this conflict is to make the NFL more political. |

Why would you get butt hurt over this? Because nothing says "hard on crime" and justice like giving some mother****er life for peddling weed? You concerned about a crime wave by getting rid of 3-strikes laws?
This polls up there with shit like, "is pediatric brain cancer bad?"

Nobody's butthurt over the bill itself. It's just illustrative of the fact that the NFL doesn't even understand why people are upset. They don't want the NFL to be political.

Its a good bill, but the NFL should stick with worrying about football.

Well, one thing is absolutely certain - the NFL had BETTER get this thing under control. Viewership was down nearly 8% this weekend.
People are pissed about this nonsense and they are leaving the NFL. The ONE thing that the front office WILL understand is fans walking away. |

If the players are upset because they feel that people like them are not being treated fairly and you make a gesture (however symbolic) to support measures that might lead to better treatment of said people, would that not be the kind of social change they were hoping for that might lead to fewer people kneeling and less outrage amongst the crowds buying nachos and checking their phones during the anthem?

IMO it is more a function of trying to play nice with the NFLPA because DeMaurice (sp?) Smith has been blathering on to anyone that will listen that a work stoppage is eminent. Probably just for optics so Goodell can say hey man we worked with you on the bill (which costs no money, time, political capital or anything else for that matter).

Yes, it is.
In fact, there was a huge black lobby in the 90's to crack down on CRACK. You might not have been around then, but I was...

People like them = people that grew up in communities like theirs, not pro athletes.
