Alternatively, you could trench around the fence and fill it with concrete or rock. Then put fill back over top of it. If the dog wants to dig under, I gotta believe she'll give up when part of it also includes digging under 18 inches of concrete.

I've got several friends who've dropped a great deal of coin on an invisible fence, only to have their dogs figure out that if they just run through the few seconds of pain, they're free to play.

And LOL at letting the battery die. That's like something my dog would try. He's a dick. But I think he wouldn't be patient enough. He'd probably find some damn way to short it out, or short the fence out or something. He's not particularly patient. |

My younger lab is dumb as a bag of hammers and he's seemingly impervious to pain. But when I maxed out both settings, that dog hit the ground like he'd been shot. He's a lummox so he's constantly running into stuff and he doesn't yelp but he'll run around screaming like he's on fire when he hits that edge. Like I said - on occasion he'll see something that he really REALLY wants to go for and he'll deal with it, but the things aren't designed to just throw a dog out there and forget about it. They'll never be physical fences. They're impediments; something you put up just to make sure the dog thinks long and hard about the decision it's about to make. They get a bad enough jolt often enough, they'll start making different decisions in short order. It would be more than enough to deal with this situation. Like I said, that dog's not going to sit there and get blasted for the 15 minutes it would take to dig out.

They also had it well inside my eastern boundary so I had it re-run there as well. All told I probably opened up 2,000 sq feet of yard for them. The previous owners had a little dog and probably didn't give a damn. In either event, there's no need to be conservative about placement, IMO. Put it right at the outer boundary of your property and if you want to have it 'in' further, just set the shock zone wider.

That's nothing.
I had a couple of goats I used as weed eaters. They broke out of their fence and spent an entire afternoon eating the wife's plants, my fruit trees and shitting on my deck. Do you know how much a couple of goats full of fruit trees, alfalfa and hosta plants can shit in an entire afternoon? The good news, they gone. |

Also, there are some companies now that the collar will keep shocking them if they go through the fence, so that doesn't work as well. |

Well, this morning I stuffed them into the back of someone's jeep Cherokee. I don't think they comprehended how much shit was going to be in their car when they completed their 1hr drive home with these prizes.
honestly, I don't care if those people were al queda pimps.... They ate the hell out of weeds around my pond and brush on the edge of the woods but it wasn't worth the headache of those fence busting sonnabitches. |

It can lead to them just getting disoriented and bolting. It's not generally a great idea, IMO.
