AMC and FX have become the go-to channels for good shit on TV anymore. This will be on the DVR list, for sure.

It's off to one hell of a start. As expected Hiddleston and Laurie are incredible actors.

Excellent! I stumbled across this tonight while laying in bed but missed a bit of the first part. Will have to go watch that part on amc.tv. But this is definitely going to be another one for me to follow.

There are some changes from the book, that aren't bad, that I found out from looking this up: Differences from the novel Pine works at the Cairo hotel during the Arab Spring, which occurred after the novel's publication. Burr is a man (Leonard) in the novel, but a woman (Angela) in the adaptation. Roper's main residence is in the Bahamas in the novel, but in Palma de Mallorca, Spain in the adaptation. Roper's arms deal is with a Colombian drug cartel in the novel, but with a repressive regime in the Middle East (implied to be in the Syria region) in the adaptation. There are also references to the Syrian refugee crisis. |

How many are staying caught up on this?
Finale is next week - incredibly well acted series. My one complaint is that the 'romance' angle feels incredible forced. First, this idea that he's essentially taking out a blood oath because a warlord's hooker died is just a bridge too far for me. Sure...he banged her...and? It's made even more contrived by the second problem - that he's banging Roeper's girl. Seriously Pine? Is there any female you've spent more than 10 minutes in the presence of that you haven't turned around and ****ed? (He also plowed the landlady's daughter) And if you're so willing to bang horrible people's girls, why am I supposed to also believe that you're incredibly emotionally invested in them. If this whole thing was a part of a vendetta drive after Roeper had the first girl killed, just how broken up can he be about it when he puts ANOTHER girl in serious danger simply to get his rocks off? Take the women out of this show altogether, make his motives something more noble like loyalty to the crown or the protection of mankind, and this series becomes almost perfect. I just think everything having to do with the girls he's sleeping with are misguided efforts at making his character too 'Bondish' as this irresistibly suave british spy with impulse control issues.

Agree on the whole romantic angle. Makes zero sense, only adds forced conflict and drama.

I keep waiting for Angela to go full Doris Thatcher and start calling everyone a cheeky ****, lol.
Good show. It's a slow burn, but it has sucked me in. Hiddleston and Laurie work well together on screen. |

Really enjoyed this series. Agree that the romance aspect was a bit forced. The longing looks were just way to obvious. Had me cringing every time. Finale was great though. Overall an excellent show.
