Stephen King's next...

This seems odd. Which for King is saying something.
Quote:
11/22/63

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.

If you had the chance to change history, would you?
Would the consequences be worth it?

Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.

Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

Duma was good. Mr. Mercedes and the follow up Finders Keepers are both enjoyable

Can't disagree with anyone about how shitty SK is at endings. Under the Dome was so damn good until the last few chapters. 11-22-63 had a wonderful ending, very melancholy but good. IT had a lot of symbolism with its ending but the part everyone bitched about did make a WTF ending even weirder.
The Stand was tolerable with its ending but could've been better.
It's like he just doesn't seem to know how to wrap up shit a lot of the time.

as with most things in life...to each his own. I think I'm typically more disappointing in SK endings than most fans. I've read them all. huge fan. I just want more from him sometimes.

but The Stand ending....IMO....well I really liked it.
good vs evil....God vs Satan....and the hand of God comes down and takes care of business. didn't see that coming. I thought it was cool.

but hey...I MOST CERTAINLY didn't see the ending of The Dome coming...and it really pissed me off!

I suppose that's fair, but to me it fell into the same dues ex machina trap that so many of his endings tend to fall into. "Well, I might have written myself into a corner here.....**** it, GOD BLOWS 'EM ALL UP!"

Perhaps I didn't give enough weight to the symbolism of it but it was also because I read the extended version, made it through 1,200 pages and it seemed like the climax of the story was literally a paragraph long.

Oh well, its still better than how Douglas Adams wrapped up the Hitchhikers series...

Just like getting Netflix or Amazon prime. You need an Internet TV or a roku box, PlayStation etc.

My top 3 would probably be IT, 11/23/63, and Tommyknockers.

The Dark Tower series sucks IMHO.
He's best at his short stories. Skeleton Crew-type collections.

Even Different Seasons being 4 novellas was better than any of those stories would have been if he were allowed to make any single one a complete book...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

reading newest short story collection now.....Bazaar of Bad Dreams....
pretty good.

need to post this in the movie thread...but at the beginning of each story he has an intro. in one intro he mentions I Bury The Living (1958) as his fav movie but wishes they would have pursued the implied ending.....well...to the end. so I was curious and googled it and you can watch the whole movie on youtube. it's like 70 minutes long. I watched. I understand his comment now.

I finally finished 11-22-63 last night and two thumbs way up,although when reading the afterword notes I see that King's boy actually came up with an ending that he liked better so he went with it,have to wonder now what Stephen's ending was going to be.

I'm reading it now. I'm only about 4-5 stories in but I like that it's not just typical king horror. There's one story (Batman VS. Robin I think) that has no supernatural elements at all. It's not a horror story. It's some thing that while unlikely could happen in Florida.

And the story about the married couple, again nothing supernatural, just dark comedy as he advertises it. And, I really liked it.

I got the hardcover off amazon for like $6...

yeah I just ordered the 2nd of the "Bill Hodges" trilogy, Finders Keeps for 1.19!
with shipping and handling it cost me 5.18.
anyways...I didn't know that the Mr. Mercedes story had been carried into another book...Finders Keepers. the 3rd...and I assume the last since they are calling it a trilogy, called End Of Watch, comes out this year. I figured I may as well get ready.....
