I use the 250 gig for OS and a 1 TB SSD as my sample drive. The other 4 drives are all regular SATA WD Black's. |

Yep, and 850 gigs are filled with sample libraries. I'll probably need another one before the end of the year. One of my orchestral libraries is more than 200 gigs alone.
It's incredibly awesome streaming from an SSD. The performance is significantly better although all of my audio tracks are recorded to the WD 7200 rpm Black's. There's no advantage to recording audio to SSD's. |

If anyone wants an "okay" gaming laptop, newegg.com has a Lenovo Y50 for $725 shipped after promo code and rebate.
Lenovo Laptop Y50 15.6” Full HD Gaming Laptop with Quad Core i7-4710HQ 2.50GHz (3.50Ghz Turbo), 16GB Memory, 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB, JBL Speakers, Windows 8.1 64-Bit It's refurbished, but Lenovo actually does a good job unlike Dell, HP through Joy Systems. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-588-_-Product They also have a MSI with m965 for $1050. |

Is there a reason I should go with with Windows 8.1 Pro vs. standard 8.1? I've looked on the comparison on the MS site and don't really see one, but thought the pro's here might know of a compelling reason.
This is the rig I'm building:

It wasn't listed but are you planning to purchase the Gigabyte Z97 UHD3 Black? I'd recommend it because the components have a higher level of tolerance. The workstation boards are of the highest grade but they're at least $300 dollar more and probably isn't necessary for your work. |
