My wife lived in Australia for a year n she said watching rugby was a major disappointment compared to the NFL. If NFL players didn't wear pads and helmets the field would be covered with dead NFL players

The pads allow the players to collide at much higher speeds.
Austraillians look at pads and are like. "pads are for gurly men"
When in fact it is physically impossible for Rugby players to hit each other with that much force without them.
So they can never truly play full throttle......or they would have to keep a plastic surgeon in the training room.

My son played football for years. Then decided to quit (pissed me off) and for fun joined a local Rugby club. His first game, on the kickoff, he shot like a missile down the field and hit the other kid solo tackle...game stopped, 20 minutes later the ambulance carried the other kid off the field. I remember thinking wow, that's a great hit. My son's coach on the other hand was livid, and told my son "This is NOT American football...we don't HIT, we TACKLE". I was like...wow. That's interesting.

NFL would rape Rugby. No two ways about it.
