Tipping for services...
Not like restaurant tipping for the waiter, but tipping gardeners, postman, house cleaners, etc. Do you do it, and generally how much?

This is the first year we've paid a guy to handle our lawn. It's a business, but he's the only guy doing it. What's appropriate? Is cash preferred, or is a personal gift (wine, homemade goodies, or something) better?

I'm entirely too poor to pay someone to do those things.

My take on it is if you value the job that they did more than the money you gave them, true it up. But if it is an hourly thing, I probably wouldn't tip.

that.

tipping movers in 100+ degree heat going up/down 2 flights of stairs moving out of our apartment, I felt warranted a little more scratch for those guys.

I have noticed a couple of restaurants lately that have a tip jar at the cashier. I'm talking a place like Pancho's, a Mexican fast food place here. Do they really expect people to tip a person for taking your order?

My doc has forbidden me from doing yard work (allergies and asthma down here in the deep South kill me). And it's a pretty substantial job, so I don't want my wife to have to handle the burden by herself.

We used to slip our mailman a little something at the end of the year. He was awesome - never had a single problem with missing mail, getting someone else's mail, packages, etc.

Then he retired, and this lazy bitch took over the route. We get mail from other neighborhoods regularly, she leaves Certified Mail in the box because she's too lazy to come to the door - hell, she's not delivered packages for DAYS after they were confirmed "on the truck" because she didn't want to get off her ass. Our subdivision has over 150 complaints against her this year, and she still has a job.
