Wade Boggs claims he drank 107 beers in a single day...

With over over 3,000 hits and a career batting average of .328, Wade Boggs was one of the greatest pure hitters in baseball history. Not as well-known is the crown Boggs holds as the game's greatest pure beer drinker. Legend has it that the Hall of Fame third baseman once drank 64 beers on a cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles.

Boggs only denies that the number was 64. He doesn't say if the real number was more or less, only that it was "a few Miller Lites." It may seem unbelievable to us mortals that one man could drink so many beers on a single cross-country flight, but a little digging will turn up plenty of information to support the legend. On a radio show interview, former relief pitcher Jeff Nelson said that Boggs absolutely would drink "50 or 60" beers on a cross-country flight, explaining that the tally would begin in the locker room before carrying over to the drive to the airport, the tarmac, layovers, and any other chance he got as the team was making their way from coast to coast. "It wasn't just an isolated incident," Nelson concluded. "He did it almost every time."

Last night, the topic came up again when Charlie Day stopped by The Tonight Show to discuss the new season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In one episode, the gang tries to recreate Boggs's feat, and Boggs himself makes a cameo as part of a hallucination Charlie has when he's 30 beers deep. Day also claims that the stories about Boggs's drinking prowess are true, and that Boggs even told him that the actual number of beers he drank, the number he so smugly refused to divulge to Kornheiser, was 107.

Boggs went down on hookers, so who knows? Ha!

I think the most I ever drank in an 8 or 10 period was 15 beers. These days, I'm lucky if I could drink six beers in six hours. I just can't drink beer in my old age without feeling bloated.

Pretty hilarious they made an episode about this. The legend of Bogg used to come up as a drunk conversation with some of my friends a long while back from that old sports talk segment.

My old man would get up at five chug coffee and at ten he'd crack his first one and drink til ten or eleven in the evening.

He'd have to get a sixer of 3.2 on Sunday from the drive through at Tinys BBQ.

Yep, I'd pound beers on LSD simply to help me fall asleep later on.

In the particular instance I was describing, this guy was a heavy user of everything. He came to a party, showed the squares on his tongue, challenged a group of younger guys to a drinking contest. He was probably 10 solo cups in when we left KC for a GWAR show (talking mid 90's) in Lawrence. We went to the show, partied afterward, crashed back at my place in KC, drove back over to where the party was the next day and ol boy was laying in a fold out lawn chair in the kitchen drinking with his eyes closed and murmuring/spittling nonsense. People were throwing around the 100 beers number, so I didn't actually witness the entire thing. Dude may have died, I'm not sure.

yep...get up, drink a couple cups of coffee. then a couple warm beers before cracking open the cold ones.
get down to 8 or 9 left and you start thinking about getting some more.

hard habit to break, unless you want to live I guess.
