Perhaps it wasn't racist. Perhaps it was a sexual orientation stare.

The other day I noticed I had left my wallet full of cash sitting out on my desk, so I grabbed it and threw it in a drawer right as a Mexican custodian happened to be walking into my office. I got the look.

If I were lazy...I would despise hard workers...and it would be justified.

you shoulda done the 2 finger wrist roll followed by stuffing them under your arm pits when you said 'sup?' Follow that up with the little chin bump.

Though it doesn't count as a true googlewhack since it uses quotation marks, searching '2 finger wrist roll' DOES result in exactly one result, this thread.

See, I can't tell from the information in this story if you are black and he's white or if you're a skinny white guy and he's a big Samoan. I'm not sure what offense is even being discussed.
I assume you mean you're a white guy, who by moving his bags over, was afraid that the black guy who sat down was thinking you might be afraid he'd take your bag or steal something out of it. So, he gave you a rotten look, like "dude, I'm not gonna steal your bag" but you can't say, "dude, I didn't think you WERE gonna steal my bag, I was trying to be polite" and now you're in an argument with somebody in your own head because this piece of shit doesn't recognize politeness when he sees it, and the media has told him all the white guys moving their bags around are racists. This is all that ****in' Obama's fault! Or, maybe it was a misunderstanding and he's upset because he's waiting in a train station and isn't having the same conversation in his head that you are. These interactions happen with humans all the time. We're selfish creatures who THINK we're better at figuring out what's going in other people's heads than we are. Mostly, the other guy is probably thinking something like: "I told her specifically that I didn't want go to this gate. They always take the chairs out at the wrong time and, see... No ****ing chairs. This poor guy over here, he has a whole living room set up but everybody else, no ****ing chairs. Damn, Missy lets just park over there next time... What's this dude looking at me for? What? Just shake your head. Damn, Missy." Last edited by mcan; 10-08-2014 at 10:46 AM.. Reason: punctuation/clarity |

in the meantime he has no idea that you're sitting across from him fuming because you're imagining that he's calling you a racist. Like, this guy over here doesn't have his own thing going on...
Now, imagine everywhere you go, these little misunderstandings happen all the time. White guilt is leading to thousands of micro transactions of unspoken racism misunderstandings every day. These transgressions are to be expected. The nuclear fallout residue that sticks to a culture for years after the primary explosion has been detonated. The back and forth pendulum of blame swings from the persecutor, to the victim, and back again until whatever friction put upon it by human empathy eventually sets the pendulum back at rest again. |
