How the NFL is Cheating Rookies out of Millions of Dollars
http://ble.ac/2tU9cdS
Not able to post on my phone but this a really interesting article. What do you think? Should NFL players strike? If you were an NFL rookie, what would your mindset be? |

Rookies can get an extension after your three of their contract correct? If I was a star player I'd holdout at that point

NFL made over $8 billion more dollars in revenue last year. It's been over $20 billion the last 3 years.

It's not four years for all rounds. Just the first and later rounds are not much. 5th rounders are 2-4 max and their signing bonus is the only portion guaranteed. He got a 4 year deal but Hills signing is only 17k per year and his base is under a mil each year.

When they bargained the new cab, the vets wanted smaller rookie deals so that more money would go to vets and 2nd/3rd contract guys.
What it did was create such a market loophole that it's so much cheaper to have guys playing on rookie deals, teams figured it out and it actually worked against vets. |

If they had any sense, every rookie would take one game check and buy a career-ending injury insurance policy.

They would have to hold out. Owners have no incentive to negotiate a new deal with them other than not wanting them not to play and the how bad it looks.

NBA makes 1/4 of that. 2.6 billion. Players get half. 1.3 bilion divide by 30. Then divide by 12. Less players = more bucks for them. Not hard to see. |

This. It's just greed. They make millions regardless. They won the life lottery by being born in the USA. Fortunate to be born with the traits and talent to play the game. Fortunate to get paid millions. What more could you ask for in a world where in some places people don't have access to water? If they get hurt they weren't as fortunate as others. That's life.
Everyone wants more money. Most people have to earn it. Some inherit it but abunch of rich athletes who complain about wanting more money is distasteful. Complain about money to the soldier who makes nothing but risk everything. |
