CBS NEWS: Hot Sauces Ranked By Heat
Hot sauces, ranked by heat:
http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/hot-...d_id=61806652/ The listicle goes from one to twenty nine, even though they are listed as 1-30 with number 30 missing. Here are a few of my favorites from the list that I have tried and enjoyed over the years-other than that last one. I have never tried the stuff but I want to cook with it at some point, before I'm so old that it will kill me. The article has pics to jog your memory. Click on it to see them.

A former friend of mine and I went out drinking and he bragged that he could eat anything spicy. I ordered wings with Daves Insanity on them and instructed the waiter to make sure they weren't watered down at all.
He ate three of them. The kicker was that he had a shaved head and touched his forehead after eating them. Had a nice burn mark there. What's better is when he went to take a piss and he thought he washed his hands well enough. He had to go directly home and sit in a tub for a while. |

First We Feast "Hot Ones" Video of Travis Kelce completing the board. Funny as hell. He is the only one not to drink water or milk. Definitely worth a watch. I bought their sauce and is quite good. |

I put a couple drops of Dave's Insanity Sauce in some ham and beans once and I ended up standing at the sink with the sprayer in my mouth. That stuff is to hot to eat and could probably cause some internal damage if you consumed very much of it.

No kidding. That Taco Bell sauce is way too hot for my tastes.

Speaking of hot sauce. I came across this last year and tried with some jalapenos I grew and they had turned red. In the end I think I put much vinegar in it. I'm going to try it again this year except this year I planted serano and habanero peppers along with the jalapenos.

When I was a college freshman, back in 1988-89, I guzzled about 8 ounces of Tabasco in a very short amount of time and then went a long amount of time without any food or drink in order to win a challenge from my dormitory housemates. I forget the exact details, but the short amount of time was 10 seconds or so and the longer time was either 20 or 30 minutes. The amount of Tabasco was what remained in a partially used 12-ounce "food service" bottle, which was about two-thirds full.
It was fairly easy money. I only made $28, but that was nice to have. The challenge came at the end of a spaghetti dinner in the dormitory. The dinner included some Italian bread, which somehow led to a discussion of food bets--there's a famous challenge where the consumer had to down a slice of Wonder Bread in 60 seconds without aid of beverage, something much harder than it sounds. Anyway, I did this in front of about 20 witnesses or so. (This was at the University of Chicago.) About 15 years later, I learned that the supposed Tabasco Sauce world record was some piddlin' amount, something like 2 2.75 ounce bottles, which I easily beat. However, when I drank the bottle, I first removed the stopper, whereas the Guinness record holders sucked the sauce through the stoppers, on TV, which would be harder. I'm sure the actual world record is way higher than what Guinness thinks it is, but it was probably witnessed by just some friends being silly. Anyway, even though I like hot sauce, I don't see much point in having hot sauce so hot that it can't be used liberally over the food. If a drop or two is too hot to enjoy, what's the point? I like to use lots of hot sauce, preferably stuff with some flavor. I like Franks Red Hot and Tabasco. I'm starting to like Cholula and Tapatio, which are common in California and which I used to think were not flavorful. Sriacha is good, too, though I use it slightly differently than the other kinds of hot sauce. Last edited by DanT; 06-05-2017 at 05:00 PM.. |

Crystal is my go to. I put it on everything from chili to biscuit and sausage gravy.

Here's a link to a video of the supposed World Record in 2007, about 4 ounces in 30 seconds, a much lower volume and rate than what I did in 1989 or so, though in my case there was not a stopper on the bottle:
