Although it might mean Smith is trying to hit Maclin down field.

better to make those mistakes now then in season. Also, at least smith seems to be pushing the envelop. I'm sure many here would say they would take a 10-13 int season if it means 30 tds and top 15 offense heading into the playoffs..

One pick was from jumping a route for Kelce. It was also 3 picks and one dropped INT.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs are desperate to force more turnovers than they did last season, so what they saw Monday on the first play of team drills in their first training camp practice in pads was big news. Rookie cornerback Marcus Peters, their first-round draft pick, cut in front of tight end Travis Kelce to intercept a pass thrown by Alex Smith. Peters would get two more interceptions before the practice had finished and dropped what would have been a fourth pick. The Chiefs are starved for interceptions after getting only six last season. On the first day of practice, that because the Chiefs were in pads resembled real football, Peters delivered half of last season’s team total all by himself. "Not a bad day," Peters said. "Not a bad day at all. I played fast. I made some plays on the ball. I’ve been having some chances to make some plays on the ball, but I couldn’t capitalize on them. "I feel I should be able to make these kinds of plays. That’s what I do. Now it’s time for me to do it on a consistent basis. I’ve got to come out tomorrow and do the same thing." For now, at least, Peters is a backup. He is behind Phillip Gaines and Sean Smith on the depth chart and was in the lineup on that first play of practice only because Gaines was on the sideline temporarily because of a sore knee. But Smith will be suspended for the season’s first three games because he violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, so there will be an opening in the starting lineup. Judging from Monday’s practice, Peters is ready to fill it. Coach Andy Reid was encouraged by Peters’ play but wanted to see it again before committing more playing time to the first-round pick. "Marcus did some real nice things," Reid said. "Now it’s important that he’s consistent. ... he’s got to come right back and do it again."
