Hopefully you aren't that naive to think those are the only 2 options...

The only two?

No, I don't think they're the only two. They're just a few of the many ways you can build a team/franchise. But they're a few that are glaringly absent from the way the Chiefs have operated.

Hopefully, you aren't naive enough to think they're building for now and trying to win now and are going to be able to IMPROVE on last year's team (which must be done to get to .500, let alone get back to the playoffs and actually have a chance to win) with a 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and two 6ths, and a bunch of second-tier, cast-off, minimum FAs.

Are you basing this off your experience signing free agents and building through the draft....or is this off your experience playing Madden?

If you are basing this off your experience playing Madden, give this regime some time...1 season is too early to write them off.

Christ people...give them the benifit of the doubt.

I'm basing it off three things:

1) Being a Chiefs fan and seeing the way this franchise operates and has operated in the salary cap era. The ownership group has remained the same. We have seen three different GMs in the free agent era, and NOT ONE has been aggressive in manipulating the cap through signing bonuses to sign elite talent to fill key spots, even when in "win now" mode. They DO NOT deserve the benefit of the doubt in this arena.

2) Following the NFL closely and reading everything I can find about front-office tactics, especially roster construction (in case you hadn't noticed from the baseball threads, I follow front office moves/player acquisition tactics and strategies pretty closely). It's honestly information that's not that hard to find, if you have an interest... there's a reason some teams can always work around the cap and sign key players even without a huge amount of cap space, while the Chiefs cannot.

3) Work experience. I've never worked in an NFL front office, but I was an editor at a national sports publication, editing primarily NFL and MLB articles.

Look, I get it. Some people are willing to believe blindly in this front office because it is the Chiefs front office. Based on your man-love of Bray, it seems like you fall at least partially into that camp.

Some of us are not. Some require evidence of competence from this franchise at this point, since it has so rarely been displayed over the past four decades.

Jesus Christ...at least wait till the end of the season to pass judgement and THEN say "See if we would have spent more monies..."

We haven't played a damn game yet....hell, the draft is still 5 weeks away and everyone is writing this team off already.

It's comical all of the chicken littles in this thread...

It's also comical how many Charlie Browns there are in this fanbase. Don't worry, Charlie. Lucy is NOT going to yank the football away this time!

It's not just one item or failing to sign one player. It's the extreme talent drain combined with complete inactivity or movement to replace any of those guys. The roster has become less talented when they're in a win now mode and needed to become MORE talented to do so.

Throw in that the schedule gets much, much tougher, and you have to be pretty homer-tastic to think this approach is going to work and lead to 2014 success.

But then again, you're CooCoo for CoCo Puffs over Tyler Bray, so maybe 'homer-tastic' fits.

Do you see a realistic scenario where the Chiefs can successfully fill all of their current needs in the draft with 6 draft picks and no second round pick?

The majority of teams that dance around the cap do so because they have a stacked team or special talent but just a short window left. Aka Denver, pats, new Orleans. The others do it because they have a young pipeline so while Seattle gets praised for bringing free agents like Avril in, nobody flinched when they lose several starters this year and nobody mentions that they cut starters all the time to let bench talent start.

With good drafts, the chiefs can afford to use free agency strategically versus throwing money at any player who fills one of many needs.

He's not. He's just stating the facts regarding those two options that happen to be used a lot by other teams who find ways to sign guys or one guy in particular that they want.

Why would they...?

Cassel or Rodgers...and Alex Smith was the best QB available last season in the draft and free agency. Whether you like what we spent on him or not...this regime went out and got the best QB available.

This regime is not aggressive...this place cries. The regime is aggressive, this place still cries.
