Go towards sustainability. I am a mechanical with a PE working as an energy conservation consultant. We are constantly hiring young engineers for our group. The demand for this field is exloding and will continue to for a long time due to increasing regulations. I am finally in the right place at the right time. It took three decades.

To me and I could be wrong, but you aren't truly an engineer until you have a degree from an acredited school AND have a PE. (depends on discipline)
My job title has engineer in it, but I am not truly am engineer. |

Yeah, I've spent most of my career labeled as a "network engineer" or "communications engineer". Currently, I am an "enterprise architect" (which is actually governed by standards such as TOGAF) but I'm neither an architect nor engineer in the traditional sense of those words.

I'm an electrical engineer.
My oldest son is going to school for Chemical Engineering. That looks pretty interesting. |

I loved civil engineering, especially the structural aspect. I didn't have any work experience and got offered a network engineering job for the phone company. Couldn't pass it up.

nice. that's the thing i've also noticed about an engineering degree. you can apply to pretty much any job cus employers know you're not a moron. maybe socially inept but they know they can teach you fast ha
