Thermapens...
I've seen talk of these in a few cooking threads, and I'm a huge fan of them. They are simply incredible thermometers for cooks.
Anyhoo, Thermoworks is doing an open box sale if you're interested in one or need a backup. http://www.thermoworks.com/products/..._jan_2014.html |

I smoke pretty often, and when I was back home, I used my brother's remote thermometer, and I dont think I'll ever go back.
Basically you clip one thermometer onto the grill surface, and the other into the meat, and the wires connect to an external display. You can then set a Max and Min temp window for both air and meat. There's a second, remote hand held display that synchs up with the first. You can then go inside if its cold and watch football. The thing beeps at you if either of your temps go outside the desired range. It was ****ing sweet.

It's completely worth it... mine broke a couple months ago, and I immediately got online and bought another.

That being said, there's a LOT about it that just pisses me off! If I weren't in IT I'm not sure I'd be as mad, but it's obvious some of the programmers were stoned when they wrote the code/made up the programming steps. And were scared of a few extra buttons too! So it works great, but the logic behind it seems to be very HP calulator'esque... Hell, I might look into that iPad version (I'd need another iPad first!!) next. It's super-sweet, and engineered towards Apple people. |

I clicked the link to check it out. The front page had 3 different models, and the one that looks like the one you've got in your post is supposedly android compatible. |

A $100 for a handheld thermometer?
That's nuts. |
