I've argued this before with people. I generally lean towards going for 2. Making 1 play from 2 yards out just seems easier than stopping the other team, plus also making a score in OT. Coaches must hate that decision.

Unless you were talking about scoring the TD with only a few seconds left. But you did not state that.

we had a 1st down in the redzone with plenty of time. We should of ran the ball a few times and got another 1st down before gunning for the endzone. That would of left very little time for Manning.

Totally disagree with your view here. Of course the clock dictates play-calling; both in terms of conserving time for your team or using as much as possible when you need to keep it out of your opponents hands. Its mind bowing that this isn't obvious.

Football is like a game of chess. There is a lot of strategy that goes into it and that final drive was definitely a blunder in clock management.
Once we shredded them for the big gainers and got into their territory we should have slowed it down. Given how we were allowing huge chunks through the air, we simply couldn't have allowed Manning to get the ball back with anything more than 30 seconds left on the clock. The play that I had the most issue with was a 1st down call with around 2:08 left on the clock. I felt we should have run a draw with Charles there to let the clock run to the 2 minute warning, instead we threw it deep to the sideline to Bowe and it went out of bounds. That stopped the clock with around 2:03 and netted us zero yards. Calling a running play in that situation would have been far from conceding a down. Charles had been having a great day and there was a good chance we could have picked up 5+ yards off a delayed draw. |

When you have an offense like ours that isn't known to be particularly great in the red zone, it becomes even more crucial. The clock management was a cluster ****. No excuse for that. The playcalling... I'm not a big fan of the plays called, but that has nothing to do with us not burning enough clock. Calling the 2nd best play option because it burns clock versus giving you a scoring opportunity means you have to get into the end zone in less tries. |

I thought they were going to score and tie the game. If they had, Manning had plenty of time to engineer a game winning drive. That would have happened. Of course they didnt score the game tying TD and the whole debate is moot, but it seems he didnt learn a thing from the week before. |

They should have just ripped a page out of the Herm Edwards playbook and played to win the game...

So most of this discussion is about the last drive. How about the first drive. First and goal multiple times this year and IMO, especially the opening drive of the game, you go Jamal, Jamal, Jamal, period. If your best player can't get in then kick a FG. Hate the turnover inside the red zone.
I to, believe there should have been some runs inside the 20 with about 2:00 to go. I do believe the first and most important thing to do is score, obviously but great coaches find a way to get both accomplished. Get the score and drain the clock. I do not think Reid is dogshit or anything but he does have a history.
