Notice in the beginning of the movie that there is smashed red vw Beatle as they're driving passed the wreck. In the book Jack and the family drive a red vw- not a yellow one. That was a visual message left for King that this movie was no longer going off the source material as its presented in the book... Its been rumored that King was pretty full of his work and that Kubrick after meeting him was less than impressed and put off by King acting like he was doing Stanley the favor of telling him how to shoot the movie and acting as if he was speaking with some first time director. Check out this site for more on the crazy genius SK plotted out with absurd detail into shooting the Shining. The guy was a high level genius and while you can poke at or dismiss some of what avid Shining fans have discovered if you read the site link I post, I think you'll have a completely new and profound appreciation for The Shining and the genius of Kubrick. http://jonnys53.blogspot.com/2007/06...-seen.html?m=1 I would love to hear others opinions on the info from the website analysis of the Shining because even if half of what they discuss was planned out, I'm floored at what an undertaking Kubrick was able to achieve.
