Chiefs' 53-man roster includes Tyler Bray, Kevin Hogan as backup QBs -Teicher

http://espn.go.com/blog/kansas-city-...-as-backup-qbs

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their offseason program Thursday and open training camp in late July at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. Here’s a 53-man roster projection:

QUARTERBACKS (3): Alex Smith, Tyler Bray, Kevin Hogan

The Chiefs have yet to make any final decisions for their backups behind Smith, their starter. Bray has the most in terms of physical tools. They won’t cut Hogan, a rookie and a fifth-round draft pick. Murray could win a job with a strong preseason.

RUNNING BACKS (3): Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West

This portion of the roster looks set. There’s no room for Davis, who was passed on the depth chart last season by Ware and West.

FULLBACK (1): Anthony Sherman

Sherman has held the job since Andy Reid arrived as head coach in 2013. He has what the Chiefs are looking for in this position, plus he’s solid on special teams.

WIDE RECEIVERS (6): Jeremy Maclin, Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, Rod Streater, Demarcus Robinson, Tyreek Hill

There’s no room for Thomas, who will lose his job to Hill, a fifth-round draft pick.

TIGHT ENDS (4): Travis Kelce, Demetrius Harris, Ross Travis, Brian Parker

It’s unorthodox for a team to keep four healthy players here, but the Chiefs could well go this way. Kelce, Harris and Travis are the receiving options; the 265-pound Parker gives them a big-bodied blocker.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (8): Eric Fisher, Parker Ehinger, Mitch Morse, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Mitchell Schwartz, Jah Reid, Zach Fulton, Jarrod Pughsley

The Chiefs will keep at least two more linemen on their practice squad.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN (5): Allen Bailey, Dontari Poe, Jaye Howard, Chris Jones, Nick Williams

The Chiefs might want to keep more big guys, but they won’t have roster room for that.

LINEBACKERS (9): Dee Ford, Tamba Hali, Frank Zombo, Dezman Moses, Dadi Nicholas, Derrick Johnson, Josh Mauga, Justin March, Ramik Wilson

Houston is the wild card here. I’m assuming he won’t be ready to play when the regular season begins. If the Chiefs carry him on the roster, then Moses goes.

CORNERBACKS (5): Marcus Peters, Phillip Gaines, Steven Nelson, Marcus Cooper, KeiVarae Russell

The picture here solidified in offseason practice with the return of Gaines to the starting lineup from a torn ACL and Nelson’s solid play as the nickel back. Cooper also helped himself by making some plays.

SAFETY (6): Eric Berry, Ron Parker, Stevie Brown, Jamell Fleming, Daniel Sorensen, Eric Murray

Six is a lot of safeties, but they’ll all play a role with the possible exception of Murray. But as a fourth-round pick, he’ll make the team.

SPECIALISTS (3): Dustin Colquitt, Cairo Santos, James Winchester

Unless things change, the Chiefs will go into the season with Colquitt as their punter, Santos as their kicker and Winchester as their long snapper.
