James Jones just got released
Quote:
It appears James Jones is on his way out in Oakland.
Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie informed the former Packers standout, once considered a centerpiece of their 2014 free-agent class, of his impending release over the weekend, according to a CSN Bay Area report.
In one season with the Raiders, Jones had a ton of targets (112) and a solid number of receptions (73) but hasn't come close to replicating the 14-touchdown campaign he had with the Packers back in 2012 that helped vault him into free agency.
Plus, it looks like the 31-year-old is getting squeezed out with the additions of receivers Michael Crabtree and first-round draft pick Amari Cooper.
Cutting Jones would save the Raiders nearly $3.5 million, according to league records, which probably put McKenzie over the edge. Jones' salary-cap number was bigger than any other receiver on the roster.
The veteran should have no problem receiving a camp invite, albeit at a lower salary. Over 16 games last season, it didn't seem like Jones was running on empty.
Personally, we'd love to see him back in Green Bay putting up almost a touchdown per game.

Apparently he didn't want to be #4 on the depth chart.
