It's going to be interesting for me once she gets to junior high and high school as to the differences of what's taught today versus the 70's & 80's.
Yeah, one way to learn something again is to help your kids with homework.

I'll tell you, from my experience, it is already much different. The math especially. They don't practice stacking the numbers on top of each other, and when my oldest started division he gave me a crooked look when I showed him a division table.

I've noticed that math is taught differently, too but IMO, it's better.

Instead of "memorizing" multiplication tables, addition and subtraction, they're actually making the kids *think* about addition and subtraction.

Mine's in a Charter school and they use a computer program called Dreambox that challenges them and won't let them move to the next level without completing the current level.

I've always been a "math person" and I have to admit, it was a little challenging for me at first to understand the concepts but once I did, I thought it was a brilliant way to get kids to use their minds instead of their memories.

If you visit St. Augustine Florida, you learn that one. They even have a Fountain of Youth park in his name. Must be why so many seniors retire to Florida.

I woulda' probably got it wrong had I not been tho' I did learn about him in school just not that he was the first.

Have you been to the Ripleys museum up there? They have a small home carved out of a tree. Very cool.
