As I understand it, yes. Bands these days use the internet as a giant promotional tool to get people to come out to concerts. Depending on the band, YouTube revenues can actually be pretty decent as well.

No one outside of super star acts are earning any money. Young bands are lucky if they break even while on tour. Streaming pays 1/100000th of a cent.

YouTube is awful. It barely pays anything, even with millions of views and as much as the industry hated illegal file sharing, it's been killed by YouTube.
