I was young, I think maybe 16 or 17 and I opened an autographed Patrick Ramsey rookie card and the Redskins were my 2nd favorite team at the time. (I don't really have a 2nd favorite team anymore).
I think it's probably worth $1 if that today. |

1989 Upper Deck Complete Factory set sealed in box (Griffey's RC was #1 in the set). Got it for my 11th birthday and never opened it. Twenty years later it's worth less than the day I got it.
In 1993, UD had "Silver Signature" and "Gold Signature" cards. For a while, the Nolan Ryan Gold was worth $250 bucks in its year of issue. I had dozens of Silver Signatures (one per pack). I think the only Gold I ever got was Rondell White. Mother****er. I think I have a George Brett SS. It was worth like $6 once.

I'm kind of glad that I was a kid before we began worrying about "collectible value". I was happy to get Chiefs cards, and I actually played with the cards and used them to build lineups and stuff. The thought of value never crossed my mind.
How weird. I actually got a whiff of the bubble gum smell when I wrote that. My memory bubbled up and I actually smelled it.

I don't think it was ever worth more than 120. In fact, I think it's the most owned set in history.

I was surprised a couple of years ago that all those cards we (if you're younger than 40 or whatever) collected and meticulously put in those albums and acid-free sleeves and such are totally worthless. Mostly the same for comic books. The same ones that were worth money when we were growing up are still worth money. Nothing from 1980+ is worth anything.

I wonder if they will ever make a comeback or if they are completely dead.

On an unrelated note, does Harmon Wages of the Falcons have the best football card on the planet or what? I remembered being impressed by his superhero image from my childhood and just looked it up.
